Lashra -> Abortion Industry Decimating Black Community (9/5/2006 5:19:48 AM)

I just finished reading this article and found it rather disturbing and ridiculous. I was wondering if anyone else had read it and what you thought about it?

O_o .......That's one of the stupidest things I have ever read in my life......Hell, I don't even know where to start on all that wrong.

There are a lot of things killing black Americans and abortion is not the main one nor the one that needs the most help/support/whatever....stupid, stupid article.

Kat..

I've cut and pasted but can't pull it up.

I don't think anyone is "targeting" black women for abortions, but the ratio is much higher for abortions:

"The abortion ratio for black women (503 per 1,000 live births) was 3.0 times the ratio for white women (167 per 1,000 live births). "

This is one of the ways the religious right pro-lifers try to gain sympathy/votes from otherwise liberal voters.
I know, cause I used to be one.

A religious right pro-lifer or a liberal? [:D]

I'm pretty liberal on a lot of things, and pro-life. I know both sides do quite a bit of emotional manipulation.

pinkee -> RE: Abortion Industry Decimating Black Community (9/5/2006 3:32:11 PM)

maybe i'll just let my head explode; as usual; the people behind the anti-abortion movement no more care about the quality of life of African-Americans in the US than anyone else; they'll say/do anything to impose their will on others.

They care as much as the pro-abortion people do. Some on both sides care, some on both sides don't.

The article does not mention related social and economic issues
that plague the inner cities such as:  poor nutrition, poor education,
drug and alcohol addiction, lack of health care and lack of housing.

70% of black children in the US are born out of wedlock. That statistic is very disturbing.

"70% of black children in the US are born out of wedlock. That statistic is very disturbing"

not as disturbing as quoting such a statistic without any mention of other racial groups to put it into context.........

I believe that one of those quiet facts that most people are afraid to acknowledge is that people carry over the vestiges of traits from previous generations through a sort of implicit, observed learning process.  Although black people have assimilated into the culture created by white Europeans for many years, the learned traits of many poverty stricken African Americans can be partially understood in the context of their ancestral roots in Africa.

In the same way that many Italian Americans are known for cultural traits that have been perpetuated for hundreds and years, and make up a good deal of the "cliche" loud, gesticulating, fiery tempered Sicilian image, fine-tuned by learned behavior, poverty stricken blacks show certain negative behavioral patterns because they are still crafted in the mold of indigenous Africans (because of subtle, traits, picked up through generations).

Africa has always been a bellicose country, and the hunter-gatherer way of life is still the norm in some parts of the "motherland".  In a country where poverty, disease, tribal disputes, and illiteracy rule supreme, it's no wonder that poor blacks display such a disproportionate level of promiscuity and violent tendencies in relation to the white population.

I read an article recently, in which an AFRICAN AMERICAN governor had suggested a plan to Norplant young, black pre-teen girls, in an effort to curb the pregnancy rate, and to allow these kids to live NORMAL lives, and eventually reach towards a college education without being fettered down by the stain of teen pregnancy.  This plan was shot down IMMEDIATELY by POOR BLACKS, who argued, tooth and nail in favor of "Lashanda's" right to get knocked up at age 15, and lose a lifetime of opportunity only to become another welfare tragedy.
Sounds like a community that "really" knows where it's priorities are.

Am I fully qualified to criticize a community to which I do not belong?  ABSOLUTELY NOT...................but sometimes the spectre of common sense gets neglected in an attempt to rationalize a truth.

It is really that simple.

...i'm sure i've seen that quote before........was it Mein Kampf?

Lashra -> RE: Abortion Industry Decimating Black Community (9/6/2006 10:01:35 AM)

I don't believe anyone is targeting the black community or any other community. This is more propaganda pumped out by the religious right to try and brainwash people. When I read it I just had to shake my head in disbelief.

You don't need to go back that far to see how this began. The black family unit was always strong up until the 1960's. What happened then? Welfare was instituted. A program that decimated the black family unit and became a way of life for many blacks. This is another example of well meaning intentions that actually hurt the people they were meant to help. And of course instituted by a Democrat.

Just Heather, you used to be a liberal?
Well welcome back!
