Termyn8or -> RE: Incendiary Topics (9/6/2006 7:23:40 AM)

Coming soon : Drivers on the freeway.

Come on now, you know you are the best driver in the world, just why are those fuckheads ahead of you only doing 15 over the limit. Don't they know this road was built for 90 MPH ? just look at how SOME of the curves are banked !

Incindiary topics ? Bringem on ! I am not here to talk about the weather, well, I guess I could, but there's no sense when it's nice outside. If you get my drift here, first of all some of the political topics are very valid. We are not talking whether you need a stop sign at your street. There is a real and present danger to our well being, our liberties (what's left of them) and our prosperity (what's left of it).

You want a chatroom where you talk about your new tennis shoes ? TV shows. American Idol ? Well that's right here. It happens. Go ahead and talk about the mundane idiocy, and when you see a thread that says "Bush Fascist bla bla bla" just stay out of it.

If you want to bury your head in the sand, go right ahead. I've found that even people who disagree with me try to be polite. For those who do wish to bury their head in the sand I could offer a suggested list for a filter :

Bush
Cheney
Haliburton
Global warming
Doctors
Healthcare
Taxes
Rights
Constitution
Government
Israel (that's a big one to avoid)
Iraq
Afganistan
Russia
China
Immigration
Jobs (moving overseas)

Basically anything that matters. Who says we can participate only in casual banter like it says ? These issues are real. Can't even get onto a mundane asshole issue like second hand smoke without certain people turning it into a personal battleground. It got so bad the Mod shut the thread down.

The problem was there were a few who absolutely would not bend in their opinion, and usually that is fine, but in this case it seemed like it was getting to be a battle to get the last word.

Friends, in a place like this, there is no last word. Forget it. If you absolutely are not changing your mind, and you see that one who disagrees is also not changing their mind, after a time drop it. It is human nature to try to get everybody to agree with you, or at least to think they should. Think of it as being emotionally continent.

But do remember this, people post things to get your opinion. If you think they are an idiot, sayso, but try to do it nicely. For example, on a forum I once told a poster that their actions were nasty, dishonest and childish. This was in response to something they posted about real life. Now I remember, it was a female who pushed her Grandmother down the stairs, and then lied about it. I could've called her all kinds of names, but I didn't. In that light let's continue, in the first place she was living with Grandma because Ma threw her out.

It wasn't this forum, but the other respondants agreed, with a few suggesting the other people were not the problem, that SHE was the problem. Did it do any good ? No way to tell.

No sir, i am not here to talk about the weather, but if you like I can bring it up, you know how "they" fucked up the weather and why ? I have an interesting theory. No "they" don't control the weather, but by choosing nuclear test sites carefully "they" have changed certain weather patterns, for the worse I might add. That was the goal.

Two plus two baby, with automation able to take care of alot of their needs, "they" need alot less of us around. So by fucking with the weather patterns, even if they change the climate in some places for the better, the farms are not there. Once food prices rise, do they ever come down ?

Now that is pretty off the wall. I do not purport it as proof. But then just why have they done thousands of nuclear tests, I mean way long after they perfected the thing ? Now friends, this qualifies as a conspiracy THEORY, and it is just that. A theory.

The real conspiracy is not called a conspiracy. The "partnership" between government, big business and the media is not a theory. It is simply not a conspiracy because they say so. You see it worked. Yeppers, insert a note in your Webster's, under conspiracy, that says "When a conspiracy is successful it is no longer a conspiracy".

OK, enough on that. To the OP or whoever doesn't like "incindiary" topics, do you recommend they be banned ? And just what topics should be banned ? And who is to decide ?

Actually it'll most likely be Mod11. They (she I think but didn't want to err) have done quite well. Killed a few threads I was in but they were getting to be a waste of bandwidth and disk space. It happens.

When people take a thread over for a personal battle it is bad. I come back the next day and there are two more pages, what happened to the last post I WANTED to reply to has evaporated in a hotbed of inane argument. I define inane argument is that which only expresses the viewpoint but does nothing to convince the other of the point. Repeating one's self qualifies bigtime.

Bring on those flame throwing, teeth gnashing, now I can't eat my fucking lunch topics. All you gotta do is control yourself, if the topic is too hard on you, forget it, stay out of it.

Just remember this, these things are a part of life, and here we have a place where we can discuss them. It is not "them" telling us, you read the opinions of individuals. This is not a TV set. I have a TV set and I turn it on once a month for about an hour to see that it still works. I have no desire to hear what they have to say. I have alot of desire to hear what You The People have to say. I want to respond to you and tell you if I think you are full of shit, but I know I must do it nicely. Plus, shouldn't my goal be to help you see the error of your ways ? How far would I get just saying "You're full of shit" ?.

I think the way this forum is, it is a positive element of the world. We discuss all kinds of political issues and somewhere along the line, I'm sure some get educated. The powers that be need us ignorant and just smart enough to perfom the tasks they need. Any further thought is discouraged by the media and the institutions.

Perhaps one day a grass roots political organisation might spring from this forum. In no way would I ever want to see this forum get political, but the beginnings could start here. Wanna do it ? Sure, but we take the agenda out of here and let this still be what it is. We need to get better candidate for starters, and a public forum such as this is not a bad way to start, but turning CM into a political entity of any sort would be wrong.

We are here because we share certain interests. We talk about other thing in "Off Topic Discussion". Leave it at that. Thing is, overall, I have learned something. Of all the chatrooms and fora out there, this one is one of the most active.

I have indeed learned that I am in a pretty big pond here, and I'm loving every minute of it.

T - what an excellent and accurate post. I flip around the sections on the message boards a lot, but I have to say the off topic section is one of my favourites.

T for President, running for the CM Party! We'll soon thrash out some policies, get the issues tied down and whip the place into shape!

PS - I must be one of the nutters the OP referred to, as having seen that sample list of topics, I want to start threads for all of them......no...no......must.. resist......!

meatcleaver -> RE: Incendiary Topics (9/6/2006 9:58:58 AM)

Resistance is futile.

Compliance is futile, you must resist.
