Hmmmmmm  interesting but what is the point.   I thought it was a War on Terror.  I do believe that Bush got a standing ovation from all sides in congress when he indicated that the war was on terror wherever it was found and against any state that supported it.   And isn't Sadam on trial for Crimes against humanity (aka terror).

The prosecutors are cherry picking the crimes for which Saddam is being tried so not as to embarrass the US for aiding an abetting certain of his 'terrorist crimes'.

Since Bush's foreign policies have caused the death of more people than died in 9/11, one wonders if he should not be on trial too.

Not forgetting Blair. Following orders is not a defence where war crimes are concerned.

Hey Meat   Since you are closer there, may I suggest that you gather your proof and take it to the Hague for prosecution.   Or, take it to the US Congress for impeachment and ultimate prosecution.

I do appreciate your thoughts though.

It just irks me that as a culture we put on trial people for manslaughter and criminal negligence and not afford them a decent lawyer and then spend billions of dollars putting into action reckless and criminally negligent policies that kill thousands of innocent people for no gain whatsoever, just because some politician is ignorant, intellectually retarded and bearing a personal grudge. Until the west holds its leaders to account, we have no right to morally judge others.

Bush is an idiot.

krys -> RE: America Remembers Again (9/8/2006 4:22:17 AM)

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.  Some people will fall for anything.  Hell, some people still believe Bush and his administration when they say things.

Just watch Fox News, you'll feel soooooo much better about everything.

"CNN: 43% still believe Saddam directly connected to 9/11"
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/41428/

The poll also found that the more educated you are, the more you likely you are to realize that there was no connection between the two. Here are the percentages of believers broken down by education level:

57% -- without a high school degree
54% -- high school grad
39% -- some college
26% -- college grad
19% -- post graduate

In another poll question, CNN found that 45% of Americans think that Iraq is part of the War on Terror and 53% believe it is not.

Meatclever - can you give some examples of countries and societies that have put more effort into the:
- rights of the accused to have a fair trial,
- trying to avoid civilian casualties during wars
- providing a large proportion of the general unwashed masses with an opportunity to kick out their leaders every few years
......than the western democracies and in particular those nasty Anglo Saxon type ones that speak the funny lingo called Eng-a-leesh

I was just watching a episode of World at War  (no 3 Phoney War to Fall of France) and it got me wondering about just how bad really are our governments - there crap but in a global / historical view......just how crap really. ??

CrappyDom -> RE: America Remembers Again (9/8/2006 8:21:51 PM)

Kendky,

Be careful for what you wish for, Bush and his gang will be impeached, I was right about everything that has gone on in Iraq and I will be right about Bush.  Not sure about war crimes but they manage to find anything about premeditation regarding 9/11 then look for a treason trial.

meatcleaver -> RE: America Remembers Again (9/8/2006 11:30:34 PM)

Our governments are as good as we the people demand them to be, they are not intrinsically good. But let us take being able to kick them out every few years. If democracy was to vote in a party that wanted to change the current socio-economic system by which the country is run, I am sure troops would be on the street within 24 hours. We have democracy as long as we vot for parties within certain perameters.

As Noam Chumsky said,

“The country was founded on the principle that the primary role of government is to protect property from the majority, and so it remains.”

As for personal justice, Seneca pointed out, it was logically unsound to consider personal justice while contemplating the destruction of whole nations.

If the west has relatively reasonable governments for their citizens, it wasn't bestowed on the citizens, it was fought for by the citizens.
