Here is another well known but strange method of Russian multiplication.
Say for example in the case of 23 x 42 double the figure on the right and half the figure on the left ignoring fractions i.e. 23/2 = 11.5 but call it 11.
23 42
11 84
5 168
2 336
1 672
Now remove lines with numbers on the left that are even.
23 42
11 84
5 168
1 672
Last of all add up the numbers on the right that remain.
= 966
I tend to use a calculator these days lazy aren’t I?
