EvilGeoff, actually I am a Dominant with bad spelling as well as the fact that I love to sexually dominate women! I was lazy where you corrected me and did not go back and correct it after typing it. So yes, we have lots in common.

I love your flag and will take a look at the site and hopefully will fin a bumpersticker or something. The upright was immediatly reconizable to me as the power symbol and the 3 horizontal or prone as the syb'slave.  Thanks for that!

I like the flag :)  It did remind me of  I-Ching symbols though.   Is the upright  representing the slave and the 3 horizontal is for the master?

I did find that the symbol of the 3 horizontal  lines is for "soft metal"

http://www.i-ching.arollo.com/index.htm

With the M/s flag, I believe the single upright "|" is derived from the symbol used in electrical work for "power".  The three horizontal lines are from a psychology perspective and mean "passive" or "submissive".  I don't think the symbolism was taken from the I-Ching.

YIK,
- Geoff

I didn't think really so either.  But as it works out (and rather serendipitously).. "soft metal" is a good way to describe a submissive- malleable strength (?)

sophia37 -> RE: How well know is this Emblem? (9/11/2006 11:09:37 AM)

I think the symbol simply looks "celtic" to the majoprity of people who see it on things, and if  you werent familiar with "Celtic" it looks "tribal". I'm sure some people might say BDSM, but most people wouldnt. BDSM is a tiny little subset.

amaidiamond -> RE: How well know is this Emblem? (9/11/2006 11:28:28 AM)

I have it tattooed on my back, it serves several purposes for me, firstly it symbolises the lifestyle I wish to follow and secondly, those that know, will erm..KNOW and those that don't think it's a nice piece of decorative artwork.

the word you want to be using here is DOMINANT .
Dominant is an adjective describing who and what we are as people.
Dominate is a verb, describing what we do within a scene or in our relationships.

A fine bit of work, Geoff...had you considered doing this as a full time job and working your way around all the profiles and posts at CollarMe one by one?

The number of times I bite my tongue, I bite my tongue until it's almost bitten right through...I try not to say anything...I know that some people are dyslexic, some people can't spell, some don't own a dictionary or a spellchecker, some people's first language isn't English, some people never learnt to read or write, but really, people, what are you thinking of, using 'dominate' as an adjective?  Please, please, please don't do it, for the sanity of the rest of us.  Or if you must, then prepare to submit to a grammar lesson from Evil Geoff....That's what I think, anyway.

Laura

P.S.  I realise that some people may detest the willful use of ellipses just as much...well...hard luck!

TheMightyBitch -> RE: How well know is this Emblem? (9/11/2006 11:48:32 AM)

BTW...............I doubt that anyone could mistake me for a submissive.

I have a very commanding and strong presence.

Hi MB,

A bit of BDSM education time - the word you want to be using here is DOMINANT .

Dominate is a verb, describing what we do within a scene or in our relationships.

MB, you are a "Dominant woman" not a "Dominate woman".  Unless you are into topping women, in which case you would say "I like to dominate a woman."  or "I dominate women."  If that's so, we have a lot in common!  *grin*

It's the same problem as if someone were saying "I'm a submit male" as opposed to the correct form - "I'm a submissive male".

Hello A/all,

I have mentioned before that I am a Dominate looking for a submit.

And having said that, understand that you will submissive when I Dominant!

I love how people know their little tidbits about each version of the triple tear drop design... too bad it can be traced back further than anyone realizes.  The original triple tear drop design was a badge of honor given to families associated with the Second Japanese Dynasty. (pre dates Celtic origins by about 3,000 years)  Samuri warriors and their families received these honors, through valor, and dedication, without desire for reward, or recompense.  and the same meaning applied.  Body, Mind, and Spirit

The symbol can also be referred to as the "kink-yang" if you want something a bit less fuzzy from the grammarians.

Sorry, MB, it's one of my pet peeves, and your posts are normally pretty eloquent and well written.  We get so many of the "Hi, what r ur thawts about BDSM?" type posts... makes me crazy sometimes.

Welcome aboard!

Could you expect that by weraing this symbol in public you might get people to come up and talk to you?

You know, get them to think:  "That is a hot Dominate looking woman with the giant triskellion on her T-shirt, I wonder if she would be interested in me"

To the question, I think there are many ways to make yourself known.  Attitude is a big one, wearing some of the jewlery recognized by the BDSM world, for submissives that might be a Story of O ring, or it could  be slave bells.

I am not sure if being obvious would get you the attention you think it might.  Bdsm is almost becoming mainstream and many are not truly into the lifestyle as I suspect you are TMB, rather you may attract the crowd that simply likes the adornments and toys that goes along with the play aspect.

Perhaps having a card created for yourself that you could hand out to those who you have interest in?  Just a thought at this late hour.

Mm, thanks EvilGeoff for the link.  I like that symbol and the fact that the maker copyrighted it and gave us all free access to using it.

Actually, the internet is wrecking my punctuation...I enjoy my ...'s and *'s way too much.

TMB, I bought a black cap that says, "Don't Let The Halo Fool You" from the Dollar General, and am planning to do some *coughs* craft work on it.  The little floggers are going to be [:D] ...um yes, party favors, that's right!

If you look closely at my tattoo, the dragon is holding the triskelion "BDSM" symbol.  In that way I am "flagging" left all the time.

My house tattoo that matches the one Scooter and Jewel share is a phoenix with the bdsm triskellion on it's stomach, it is on my  upper arm like theirs. The difference is that theirs was split in half so when the stand arm to arm it makes a whole bird while i have the same double headed  bird in it's entirety symbolizing that i am owned by both.
Not to mention if you look closely at the back of the tour pack on our bike, this BDSM symbol (triskellion) appears there as well. If they know what is is, cool, if they don't, it's just art...I guess..lol.

edited to say; The bike also has a sticker there too, that says "Two's company, Three's fun"..perhaps that's a hint for some....ya think?

topcat -> RE: How well know is this Emblem? (9/13/2006 4:32:08 AM)

M. MB-

My personal perferance for flagging is the leather pride flag. It certainly has seniority:

Worn, like almost anything, left for a top, right for a bottom...

Stay warm,

You see that symbol all over Ireland when you travel there.
Newgrange itself is about 2,000 years *older* than the great pyramids.
In the last few years they dug up artifacts in Ireland carbon dated to 9,500 years old.
If this is a symbol of the B&D community I wonder where I could purchase one to wear around my neck?
