The media-engineered, karmic pain-train has been awfully rough with America's favorite metaphorical bukkake target (Michael Jackson).  Hell...........I might even be the last Jackson apologist left standing in the States, other than die-hard Michael fans and his extended family.  If Jackson's imfamous legal fiascos didn't succeed in alienating potential sympathizers, his perceived weirdness, peurility, and tenuous grasp of reality probably did the trick, FO' SHEEZY.

Now, the Swanksta has NEVER been one to arbitrarily shove the concept of spiritual transmigration down the public's throat (not that it has retained any sort of gag reflex, anyway), but the parallels between the lives of Michael Jackson, and everyone's favorite historical sideshow celeb with a pachyderm sobriquet, "Elephant Man" Joseph Merrick, are so goddamn compelling, it's gotta make you stop and wonder.  Even Michael himself, when discussing his own interest in the life of this unfortunate, physically deformed pariah, was taken aback by their shared characteristics.

" I love the story of the Elephant Man, he reminds me of myself alot, and I could relate to it, it made me cry because I saw myself in the story"

The pathos of this whole situation, really pins me to the mat.  Here they are -two individuals shunned by the masses: one because of a hereditary biological defect, the other, an androgynous, pelvic-gyrating media freakshow ...................... and yet they reach out to each other across the span of a century, and develop an emotional rapport.  If this isn't a case of reincarnation, there ain't no such thing to being with, ladies and gentlefolk.  Even the transposed initials of their names seem like a big, cruel cosmic joke, rendered by some malevolent force.

I won't take up too much room to point about the similarites between Jackson and Merrick, but if you do your own research, you might just come to the same conclusion.  Michael Jackson may have brought about his own downfall........but it seems to me that Jacko was born under a bad sign.

     Yeah, it's original.

On a closer inspection of the "Elephant Man" photo links on this thread, I think that I've figured out  the true origins of his nickname..  If you take a second to squint  and examine the second pic, you can see that Mr. Merrick was really "packing some heat" down below.................a makeshift "trunk" of sorts.

..........so shunned by the masses in fact, that he is one of the biggest selling artistes of all time........Jacko may want us to feel his pain and see him as a misunderstood cripple but i dont think there really is a link.
Now if you want a real connection between the elephant man and a famous rock star, try David Bowie........

Jackson is, in fact, an emotional cripple.  While Bowie has some concept of reality, Michael has been, since childhood, completely detached from anything that has a close resemblance to our concept of "how things are".  Jacko is so freakin' "out of it", that he created his own makeshift reality (Neverland Ranch), full of llamas, hot-wheels, and dollhouses.  I'll bet that M.J. would even qualify as legally insane if given a psychiatric battery exam.

..however...Bowie played Merrick onstage in what is considered by masny as one of the great performances of all time. That experience probably means he has more insight into Merrick than a solipsistic fantasist ever will.......

I understand where you're coming from, philosophy - but my agument, which ain't quite tenable in the realm of logical thought, is that Michael Jackson......Jacko........M.J............the King of Pop,  IS  ( in the karmic, spiritual transmigration sense) the present-day incarnation of Joseph Merrick.

I don't know if I'd call it a "funny" metamorphosis.  Grotesque?  Now you've  really hit the nail on the head.

By the way, mnottertial............I've always considered myself pretty word-savvy, but that one sent me to the dictionary wit' da' quickness, yo.
