Heh, this is cute:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060912/ap_on_go_pr_wh/sept11_bush

Brief quote:

quote:

"Our nation has endured trials, and we face a difficult road ahead," the president said. "Winning this war will require the determined efforts of a unified country. So we must put aside our differences and work together to meet the test that history has given us."

Yeah, we should just "put aside our differences"--in other words we should all fall into line and follow the President's marching orders...

I don't know what depresses me more, the fact that he keeps trying this shit, or the fact that people keep falling for it.

For me it's the fact that people keep falling for it that astounds me and breaks my heart.   M

Oh, the statement isn't wrong as such. It's just that W. couldn't unite Siamese twins. It would be best if the nation were united -- that just won't happen under him (and he has shown no efforts to cause it to happen other than just telling people to support him and calling them unpatriotic if they don't). If you want a real single culprit in the division in politics (though it is obviously much more complicated than a single issue), it's the two-party system, with primaries that cause the two choices to have played to their party rather than the nation as a whole..

If the US really was under threat it would be united. I think the fact that it isn't, shows that the national psyche doesn't really believe Bush when he says the American way of life is under threat.

i believe it is imperative to arrive at a consensus.....problem is, that requires compromise on both sides. Both sides have become so entrenched that it's hard to see how either side can shift their position.

i have hated the wars since they began; don't see any justification for them, and think Bush is a pyscho; but i support our troops, and wish Bush would propose some sort of end-game before we have another Vietnam.  pinkee

Yeah yeah yeah.  He said PUT ASIDE your differences.  From what I've read, you don't have any differences with him.

It's not the idea of coming together, united for a single cause, that bothers me...it's the abuse of this principle that does. How about uniting for a better cause than war? Yes, I feel that war is sometimes necessary...but I have serious doubts about this one!

Actually I do have differences with him.  What I am not so sure of is my legal right to voice those concerns under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (which still applies to me).
