Eh, this is probably not the best place to ask this. But here goes anyhow. I'm trying to find cheap airline tickets From MN to TX. I, and my Sir have never traveled via airway before. We've been trying to find a good ticket price... Does anyone know of a good link? Or if it is best to reverve a flight, or try and grab a flight the day before... I don't care about flying coach. How about online security? Is it safe to order a ticket online? Please, any information will be helpfull.

I have purchased tickets thru most of the major sites, yahoo travel, expedia, etc.......they are all pretty comparable in price and I have never had a concern with the safety of the transaction.

I've used travelocity, orbitz, expedia, jetblue, and a few other general sites.  Definitely do comparison shopping, be flexible on dates and times, and try ordering in the middle of the week.

It's as safe to buy as anything from a corporate site is online.

And with air travel as hectic as it is these days, I wouldn't add to it by trying to get a last minute one.

Bestfares.com is good for prices, but you have to pay a 59 dollar fee to join.  (only pay if If you find the listed fare and that savings is more than the 59 bucks, obviously)

Travelocity is the best for changing dates and whatnot..  anything that needs to be changed post-purchase has been handled really well by them.  i've been able to watch fares and if it dropped, refund the higher priced ticket and buy the cheaper fare.

Beleive it or not, depending on the travel dates, sometimes ordering direct from the chosen airline is cheaper. Ordering online is perfectly safe, Ive done it numerous times. Plus you can select your seat.

Another site ive used is www.bookingbuddy.com . It can search multiple sites/airlines for you.

Good Luck

I fly often for work and personal, including a vast number of scene events.  I book predominantly through Continental, my preferred airline.  I also have started using www.kayak.com to price out flights, and if needed, I'll chase the sites they reference independently hoping for a better price.

Know where you're going locally and see if there are other airport options other than the big majors.  There are times that the little commuter airports, or driving 50 more miles to another airport might give you a $50 or better price advantage.

DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to book flights.  The prices are insane and they are that way because they can get significant bucks from corporate travelers who have no option to book earlier.  Generally, domestic flights should be booked with a 14 day advance, with 21 day advance or better on any holiday/blackout period.  Internationals, start looking 3 to 6 months out and be booked by the 30 day point when those prices start to jump again.

These airline sites, including Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz, use encryption on their end.  However, no system is completely safe.  If you're a person who doesn't have a good, secure site at home with a firewall and spyware killers, you have a slight chance that you could be phished for personal information.  I can't say that I've personally had that problem though.

If you can try Jetblue, it is the airline I prefer whenever possible. They do not go everywhere though. You can try American and Delta..I would go directly to the website for the airline. My owner doesn't care for JetBlue..they have no first class..and he won't fly if he has to be in coach. He tends to fly American and often flies into Dallas and Houson for his connections so they might be a good option for you. Booking online is safe and easy. Airline security is OK..just be sure you have checked items that might not be allowed in carry-on. The list is extensive, this is just the health and beauty stuff that is banned from carry-on. You can see the full list at www.tsa.gov.

Body creams and lotions
Bubble baths
Bubble bath balls (gels)
Eye drops / gels(I believe you can have up to four ounces in your carry-on)
Gel caps
Gel deodorants
Hair detangler
Hair sprays / aerosol bottles
Hair styling gels
Hand sanitizers
Lip gels (Carmex in tubes, etc)
Lip glosses/liquids (solid lip glosses and blushes are allowed)
Liquid foundations
Liquid medications (non-essential)
Liquid Soaps
Make up removers / facial cleansers
Mascaras
Mosquito sprays
Mouthwashes
Nail polishes, such as those shown here, are now prohibited from the security checkpoint and in your carry-on baggage. Nail polish and removers
Neosporin like cremes
Ointments
Perfumes / colognes
Saline Solutions
Shampoos and conditioners
Shaving creams and gels
Toothpastes
Topical creams

We are frequent bi-coastal flyers, at least twice a month, so if you have any other questions just let me know.

I sometimes go with cheaptickets.com. They offer good prices when you're feeling frugal.
