I think the news organizations need to do us all a little public service.
In this instance the perpetrator should never be called a gunman. He is a "cowardly murderer". He should never be referred to in any better terms, till worse terms are applicable, such as "crazy whacked out loser cowardly murderer".
This sort of thing should carry over to other things in the news. Many perpetrators of various crimes should always be referred to as " The loser ". Gang violence perps should always be referred to as mindless sheep with not even one ball or half a brain amongst the gang of them.
Creep should be a common moniker. Sneak thief instead of embezzler, or white collar criminal.
Etc etc......No room to idolize or idealize.
