ORIGINAL: Mavis popeye, what are you eating that makes you so thin? i know how you're thinking, you're adding up all the stuff you've eaten today, and figure if you aren't gaining weight on 3 meals a day plus snacks.. heavies MUSt be eating 4, plus double snacks. Some, by their own admission are, but not all. Actually, i couldn't stand to eat as often as you regulars. i just digest so slowly, a regular cheeseburger without the fries, and no soda, will stay with me for 6 to 8 hours. Tuna on a green pepper takes about 4. i'm up til wee hours of the morning because eating dinner with the family means i can't lay down for that long. i've seen the thin girls at work that hit the machines daily, buying a soda and a bag of chips before the shift, at two breaks, and added to the lunch they cart in to microwave, a full replica of last nights lasagne. After work, they'll go home and make full dinners and drink 3 more sodas. WTF? if i ate that much in one day, i would puke myself dehydrated. Since the work done was production, i KNOW i was doing as much or more activity, my output n the clutch assembly line was much more than theirs, because i was sensitive to being overweight, and damn sure i wasn't going to be outworked. Consuming huge amounts of food does seem to raise some peoples metabolism.. and eating only once a day really does aggrevate a slow metabolism. What started my body on this downward metabolism spiral? sleep apnea. it's being treated, but by now has caused an enlarged heart and pulmonary dysfunction. so now, yes, i have the added kicker of not being able to exercise effectively and i'm not working outside anymore. oddly enough, i haven't gained any weight while not working, i just haven't lost any either. My normal caloric intake per day is 900-1000 calories, with the exception of Saturdays, where i get all my calories from "grain products" Icehouse beer. lol. 149 cals times the amount i drink, it's still under 1000 calories. usually i don't eat on Sat because food just lays there and sautes with the beer. yuck. (Yes, i admit the beer n cigs vices are killers, and am addressing those things.. but outside of Sat night out, i have a healthy mix in the diet over the span of 3 days.) When i was able, weight training sure did help, and the added muscle mass made a big diff.. and i'll go back to that as soon as i can. Mavis, Sublizzie, Velvettears, I eat once or twice a day, no "snacks" I eat whatever I want. I also do a lot of walking and ride my bicycle a few times a week. I was just out to Kansas City and visited a Coast Guard buddy of mine and his wife. He just got on the Post Office and walks about 8 miles a day and his wife told me he "lost his gut just from walking for two months." I've travelled to quite a few foreign countries and you just don't see the obesity there that you see in this country. There has to be a reason for this is what I'm wondering. I mean why in the U.S. but not in so many other countries? About 4 months ago I was talking to my brother who is a Lt. on the Boston Fire Dept and his Ladder Co responds to "Medical Aid" calls. He said they had a 27 y.o. female who had been dead in her apt for about a day due to heart attack and that "she was about 5'2" and 240 lbs." I mean if you're 5'2" and female you (should) weigh between 95-115 lbs. What happenned there? And about a month or 6 weeks ago one of the other owners of these condos had a heart attack and had to have quadruple by-pass surgery. She was about 100 lbs overweight. She felt "fine" too until the heart attack. As for me if I ever became overweight I'd just stop eating for a week or so and walk more. I'm going to start doing a lot more walking at the beach after talking to my buddy. Walking really does work! Why is the United States stricken with so much of this condition moreso than other countries?
