OK, I am the kid with glasses highly wanted by the feds for downloading thousands of songs. Actually I would sell the whole collection for a couple hundred in MP3 format. Anything that needed it has been DE-licensed or DE-leted.

At any rate I have to do maintenance on such acollection and came across something quite interesting, something everybody seems to have forgotten about. It was about ten years ago, so people will have forgotten.

Remember the band 2 live crew ? They had an album called "Nasty as they wanna be". This album, disk, whatever was banned from sale in Broward county FL. They had a song called "Git the fuck out my house, bitch". This was probably the aircraft carrier that broke the camel's back, they banned it and the FL supreme court upheld the ban.

The band later came up with "Banned in the USA" based on "Born in the USA". That's what I came across tonight.

Here's the point, if they can ban anything, they can ban anything, including anything they don't like in the way of political discourse. The incumbents are so heavily favored now they think they can just start wars at will. They think they can do anything, and unfortunately, they are almost right. But for a few of us that remember things the way they ought to be, they would win. This is how they win in the openly communist countries, and they hope one that noone will ever question them.

This all started when McCarthy started his witch hunts. This is the US and you are allowed to be a communist, although it goes against what we are supposed to stand for. What's more we are more communist than ever now.

In Cleveland now, you have to pay $30 a year for the priveledge of scrapping, that is picking garbage. Sooner or later you will need a license to wipe your ass. This is ridiculous and wrecked my day when I heard it. All the nuts were right, I mean the militia people, the sects, cults, everybody the government and media villified, those people were RIGHT.

What now ?

This calls for a couple of Noam Chomsky quotes.

The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control - "indoctrination," we might say - exercised through the mass media.

Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.

“The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control / ''indoctrination',' we might say / exercised through the mass media.” Yes I know I repeated that.

Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media.

“The more you can increase fear of drugs and crime, welfare mothers, immigrants and aliens, the more you control all the people”

“The country was founded on the principle that the primary role of government is to protect property from the majority, and so it remains.”

I am personally against censorship of almost any kind.    I am not against censorship in the following:

when reporting troop movements involving war movements (causes death of troops when reported)
When yelling things like fire in the theater (causes death in the panic)
Slander
and similar circumstances.

I remember those songs and all..  It just goes to show.. You have the freedom of speech as long as it does not offend the next guy... Then all bets are off.

You are so right. Remember when Tipper Gore waged a campaign in the 80's to put parental stickers on recordings? We all know how Right Wing Tipper is don't we?
2 live crew made a ton of money from their recordings. I remember their product being available in music stores here in California. It is a bit of a stretch to use morons like 2 live crew to support your view, but since you are, do you think Tipper and Al bought any of their records?
