I'm not going to go into detail, but work really sucked tonight ... last night, technically, I guess.  There was some rioting, serious life-threatening head trauma, etc.  I did more walking today than most people do in a week these days - at least 8 miles.  On top of everything else, I still didn't get all my work done, which I'm likely to get into trouble for, because I worked over (I wasn't allowed to leave - the guy who runs the facility kept me there for an hour past my normal time to clock out, then it took another 15 minutes to finish up what I could before I realized if I didn't leave, I was going to fall asleep on my way home).

It's nights like tonight that I wish we had a boy who is nocturnal like I am - to get a foot soak ready, give me a back rub, and then hold me until I fall asleep.  *sigh* Hopefully someday, I won't have to wish anymore.

Deep breath ... I've had those days myself, so I do understand.  Close your eyes, relax and think about the next day being all new.  *hugs* to you.

Unfortunately, the new day has started all too soon, and I have to go back to that horrible place again today (keep in mind, I typically like my job - a lot - I just can't stand the thought of going in today, and I can't call off because there is no one to replace me).

Right now, I'm hoping and praying that nothing goes wrong tonight - everyone keep your fingers crossed for me.

Dear SweetDommes, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Oh, how I've had so many of those days--police officers, fire fighters, ambulance/EMTs, nurses and doctors; as well as all the support staffs around them have 'those' days!

Being a sole care giver to a parent with Alzheimer's Disease--there is a rare chance for me to escape and my 'tour of duty' is around the clock.  I've had to give up a lovely position as a faculty member at an academy, which was necessary--as duty comes first before pleasure.
I hope there will be a time in the future for relief, such as placement in a care facility so then I can be free to get back to the pursuit of traveling and giving presentations, educational demonstrations and or mentoring.

So--Here is a Lady Hugs' hugger for all that want/need them--
{{BIGGGGGGG HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS}}}

Sincerely,
Lady Hugs

It feels like one of those days every day I work... putting in an average 12 hours a day 4-5 days a week driving around gets rough.  Last week one of my coworkers tipped over his truck while going around a curve a half mile from work.  Needless to say I was a little freaked out.

On days like that I always go home and take a bath.  Going to the beach helps too.

It's good to remember that black clouds don't stay overhead for long.  They always pass.

I know myself, if I get down at all, I find it lifts my spirits to call or visit a friend.  There is something about being around other people that makes it easy to change moods.

Too, I find that it helps to "talk things out."  Get whatever is bothering you out of your system, then let it go, and walk away from it.  It helps to know it's just a temporary situation.

My day today was far, far better.  The two offenders who got sent to the hospital last night are ok - the dormatory that the other offenders trashed has been mostly cleaned out.  The officer who was injured is swollen, but ok.  A total of 35 or 36 stitches were aquired between the three injured parties.

And, I started yarping while at work tonight (yes, even with yarping every 30 minutes or so was better than last night), so I'm not working tomorrow as scheduled - that gives me an extra day off.

I'm feeling much better today - a day off is definitely what I needed.  I even got some much needed cleaning done.

Now if only I had a boy to take care of me before bed at 3am .... lol

Glad you're felling better :)

I know how having a rough day at work can just make everything worse.

Glad that your feeling better, I know what it is like as my life as a carer is difficult. If you ever need someone to talk to then feel free to drop me a line. I am assuming your in America so the time difference between there and Scotland mean we should get a chance to chat.

Yes, I am having one of those days (weeks, months?!?!) right now.  And so is My jonathan.  It is particularly hard when we are not permamnently together for another few weeks.
My sympathy to you, and I am glad that I will be able to come home to loving support, and give same, very shortly.

I'm glad that you have the end to your separation in sight, Dusty.

In good news, after a few attempts at messaging people, one finally responded positively.  First 2 never replied at all, one replied that he's not into poly, and finally, on attempt number four, a guy replied - he's friendly, coherent (even with way too much caffeine in his system LOL), and while he said he can see himself having a problem with poly, from his tone, I think that was a typo *crosses fingers*

Yes, I had two days like that in a row. I think there are positive aspects in the problems we have to deal with.
I went out to my car to go to work and had the knob that controls the different vents break off. The dealership is not open on weekends so I had to take the day off work. I went to get the part thinking they would have to order it. They did have it in stock. I though that was cool that I did not have to order it, I was able to replaced the knob.
That evening I notice the hot water tank leaking water. I had to take the next day off work to replace the tank. My car is too small to put the new tank in it. My sister has a mini van. I ask her if she could come over and help me out with it. We went to Lowe’s to buy a new tank.
We spend seven hours to replace it. The new tank was a little different from the old one. We had to put in a new gas vent pipe up through the roof for it. We had to change and add longer water pipes to the new tank. I could have replace the tank and do all the work myself. On some projects, I can always use an extra hand to help me with them.  I appreciated her words of encouragement, when we ran into problems.  I enjoy spending time with her. It seems that only on holidays does our family get together. I told her that I really appreciated her help.

HUGS, anyone who has a job that deals with crisis has those days. I have just come off a 5 day (12 hour nights) stretch that was very intense.

When the unit has a cluster of intense issues or very emotionally devastating deaths, we are offered debriefings. They are very helpful. It is easy to forget that all we see when helping others has an impact on our psyche as well.

I used to think that it was a weakness- that it was getting to me. Now I am happy I have been doing this job this long and I still can feel the pain around me . I have not lost my empathy.

Take care of yourself.

Sylph

My advice is to follow M's advice and have a cocktail - My personal recommendation is stiff Long Island Ice Tea  ; }

I personally prefer a chocolate martini. Warm bath and a cuddle with the critters. I have the benefit (and duty) of animals that are empathic (very sensitive to human emotion). They really like to cuddle when I'm starting to get too stressed.
