People usually find honesty great in theory. In practice, its a hit-or-miss proposition. Whenever I write anyone online, my tack is usually to want the smallest of small things. I figure if I cannot even connect small with a person, I certainly won't connect big with them. Also, seeking a small connection generally offers something to the email recipient -- which makes the email exchange a potentially win-win situation. Did you like this movie, read that book, have an opinion on this post, etc.... is a better way to feel someone out and have a productive, rewarding exchange, than to ask or want something greater from them.
