Hey Level, that was cool!  I do remember it.  That's back when they used to play music lol.

I like your signature line, btw :)

Ohh so if I ever see "real music" on MTV again, I'll know it's your doing

(Side note: When I saw Gilmour last spring, he played Echoes.  Started out with that "ping" and everyone went crazy).  Maybe you can play that on MTV lol.

Hee hee, trust me, if I get my hands on MTv or a radio station, it'll be the good stuff, around the clock.

I remember both of those.  People were worried about their kids watching MTV back then... and look at it now.  I suppose I willl forever feel "old" being a first generation MTV kid.  Home computers, MTV, VCRs, CD's and cell phones... how did people function in prior generations?

My parents thought Devo "Whip It" was awful.... and it's so tame now.  Then again, maybe something did rub off on me..... Hmmmm......

Hell yeah I remember when they played music. I never paid quite as much attention as some of my peers, where someone's new video was waited for like a movie release, but I still liked it. In more recent times I liked watching Vh1 Classic, because they played music, but even they have moved into shows and other stuff.

They do late night/early morning, I think.

One of the good things about running from hurricane rita was getting to watch that channel and some others on my brother's satellite, it's a good station.

I never got into watching videos, that was a generation younger than me but my daughter watches MTV and I guess I'm far too old to appreciate screaming, prank playing juveniles. I understand it is cheaper to make these sort of programmes than play videos because of the royalties. The one thing about listening to your pop music on radio though, you could mess around with your motorbike or girlfriend without being distracted by that idiot screen in the corner.

OK. I admit it, I'm too old and waaaaaaaay past it.

Yes, you do.

"In my mind and in my car..."

I had a pair of glasses like that.

What were we thinking?

"It's the same thing," he said.

I'm not sure thinking was part of it, E lol. Bad fashion or not, I love those times, though.....

Those two clips aired on my 12th birthday, while I was spending the night at a girlfriend's house (she had cable - we didn't) way back in '81.  I remember waiting up until midnight because her older brother said there was going to be this cool new channel where they showed "videos" while they played music.

Staring at the tv...  wow...

~Holly, who remembers when MTV played entirely too much Rod Stewart and Styx
