Do we actually learn from Bdsm movies?
What Bdsm movies made you just wonder?
Or do we learn more from books, or from
just watching people in general?

I never watched anybody and said mmm
I want that done to me, or I would like to
do that to someone.

My first Mistrerss just showed me what kind of
toys She had and how She was going to use
them.

this slave does not watch any of the movies that are out there that pertain in any way to the way she lives. The only reason being that none of them have interested her enough to watch them
everything that this slave has learned she has done so from hands on experience through the years, not from movies or books

We've learned different rope, knot, and basic S&M techniques from non-fiction books on BDSM. We have learned more from hands-on experience and watching others, though. Watching others has given us ideas on how to expand our own style. For us, the fictional books (Beauty Series, etc.) and movies (Secretary, etc.) are entertaining, but hold little educational value.

As always, YMMV...

i find most movies just have no idea as to what the life style has to offer any body or maby just the ones i have seen ???

My first introduction into WIITWD would have come in the form of bondage videos, without any power exchange. That was enough for me to know that I was turned on, but not necessarily educational.

Once I began physically experiencing what we do, it was watching people scene at workshops and play parties. I then started reading books as well. Most of the popular 'scene' non-fiction as well as fiction books I've had for years. If there is something good that comes out new, I will give it a look as well.

A lot I could learn through practical application on my own. Once I started collecting a huge variety of toys with different textures, widths, etc., it was common sense which type of 'thing' was going to create what type of result or reaction.

I still have an interest in movies certainly from a historical perspective, as I still consider myself a student of BDSM. Many of the movies that were covered in the thread a couple of weeks ago I already have or hopefully will soon see. Learning from them, not necessarily an issue. That's not to say some aren't better than others.

One thing that we do that one can gather insight from regular mainstream movies is in the case of a psychological thriller. To see how a headspace can be created (such as a mindfuck) and twisted.

Hope this lends some perspective.

I think the most I ever got out of one was watching "Secretary", the idea for the hand/arm restraint she used, and about 8 orgasms.

Everything I needed to know about BDSM I learned watching Harry Potter.

OK, not true, but i've learned as much about BDSM from the Harry Poter series as I have from watching BDSM related movies. And Snape is soooo cool.
