FangsNfeet -> Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 4:21:58 PM)

Incase you have not heard, the Pope quoted in a speech about Musilums being violent. To prove how wrong the pope was, many musilums had a non violent protest. In the protest, they made a dummy of the pope, hung, shot, beaten, burnt, and then drug it.

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/09/16/pope.islam/

The pope should just come on TV again and say "Thanks for proving my point."

WyrdRich -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 4:28:56 PM)

Wasn't the guy who shot the last Pope a muslim?

Estring -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 4:39:10 PM)

He was from Turkey, but what from I have read, it was The Soviet Union which was behind the assasination attempt.

There is Christian bashing and Jew bashing every day in the Arab media. I have yet to see any Arab or Muslim demonstrations against that. I'll bet Salman Rushdie wished he had written about The Pope instead of Mohamed.

LordODiscipline -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 4:48:22 PM)

The pope was wrong in-so-much-as he was quoting text from centuries ago that was prejudical and bogoted even for hte time in which it was written - and - was originally intended to justify vilence against muslims at the time it was written.
he was (to his credit and this is little reported) quoted out of context. However, it was stupid of him to reference it at all and he definitively deserves the slam from the press.

The person who shot John Paul II was Ali Aga - a follower of Islam hired by the Bulgarian secret service through the auspices of the KGB.

The Catholic church is the Catholic church.  While it may have had its hands in world politics and power since its inception, it is largely a religion of superiority and exclusion.  I'm surprised people were surprised.

Arpig -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:17:43 PM)

Balderdash!!!
The slam is all PC crap!!!

LordODiscipline -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:34:24 PM)

People were surprised because of hte bridges that John Paul II made in the significant gap in understanding among other religions and the Cathoic Church.

Although it has a history denoting superiority - it has (in the last half century) tried to rectify that by allowing that all thing done were not correct and that all things said were not necessarily so...

The surprise is the idiocy of the reversal (*apparently unintended?) and the potential for drawing the faithful through a negative message, vice a positive one as has been the encyclical ideologue since Vatican II

I, for one, am utterly sick of the catering to Islamacists' sensabilities.  They show total contempt and disrespect to all who doesn't buy their silly mythology, then have the gall to demand to be treated with respect.  They claim to be a "religion of peace" and prove it by thuggery, murder and terrorism.

mnottertail -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:45:35 PM)

And this fairytale is somehow different than Christianity; how?

Where is the catering, 'cause I ain't seen nobody say it is fair to have Wednesday the holy day and hand out pork sandwiches and mead.

So...the Pope makes a statement about moslems being violent. They respond by being violent to an effigy of him. Uhhhhhhh.........

After JP11, a real nice progressive guy, they put "Der Raidern" on the Papal throne. Evidently, JP11 had shaken up the theocracy in the past, and they felt it was time to get back to tradition. It would appear that they have succeeded beyond thier wildest dreams.

As to whether that is a GOOD thing...................[8D]

LordODiscipline -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:54:14 PM)

Religions are what they are made by the people who follow them.

Insulting the religions of many of the people on this board is both a violation of the TOC and a significant display of ignorance relative to what they are for many more than the prejudicial spewings would corral.

History denotes the sensational and ignores the mundane.

Whereas wars and famines, purges and religiouis terrorism might be reported - the average "Joe" who adheres to the peace of his religion and who will not politicize it as it does not place bread on the table or assist in leading to a life after life is not heard from unless he is supernormal... but, they are more numerous, pleantiful and substantial than the scattered historical examples otherwise embraced by those who do not care for religion and blame it for their lives ills.

mnottertail -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:55:25 PM)

So this effigy thing, were any of them motherfuckers wearing perfume?  'Cause that is just wrong, it is so violent in such an intimate way, there ought to be a law............

mnottertail -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 7:58:27 PM)

I am not sure the table of contents has any terribly specific prohibitions regarding this in the index, or appendicies.

However, let us remember that there are more valid religions in the world than those ran by Jeez or Al.

WyrdRich -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 8:14:06 PM)

I've found myself in confrontations with Fundy Christians many times and had them tell me I'm going to Hell more times than I can count.  Not one of them has laid a death sentence on me for telling them they are hypocrites, or full of spite and hate, or even suggesting that Jesus Christ is going to kick the shit out of them when he gets back.

Islam claims to be a religion of peace and will kill to prove it.

mnottertail -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 8:16:54 PM)

LOL,

Hell is just a little garbage dump on the outskirts of Jerusalem called Gehenna, you don't want to go where the goddess Hel lives in the real religion, she lives in Niflheim............

LMCAO,

LordODiscipline -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 8:29:08 PM)

Whoever said there were not more than those two - those were the ones we were talking about.

Digression being what it is, insulting any one of those is pretty pathetic and weak.

All the more reason to die gloriously and retire to Valhalla.

mnottertail -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/21/2006 8:52:50 PM)

By the wisdom of the one-eyed, this is agreed with the Wyrds.....

If you talk about the two, it is only fair that those others of us speak of the 3 or the six or the 9.

Amaros -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/22/2006 10:56:42 AM)

Haha, a Christian, calling Muslim violent, what a riot.

"I come bringing not peace, but the sword".

LadyEllen -> RE: Was the pope right? (9/22/2006 11:21:03 AM)

All these references to Viking religion - the religion of an awful people who terrorised Europe with dreadful violence.

Funny how they never tried to convert anyone to their religion with threats and violence though, which the two Judaic heresies have done. They're each as bad as the other when the fundies get hold of them and its only 'cause the fundy Christians are relatively controlled that they're not firebombing my heathen house of evil right now.
