SubNY278 -> RE: Chavez: Democratic Presidential Nominee? (9/22/2006 4:53:40 PM)

Funny how many Americans dismiss Chavez as communist but have no problem with America's dealings with China. Funny how many, including the spineless Democrats, took offense at Chavez's insults against Bush, but don't take offense when Bush & co say similar, if not as blunt, things about other countries, or even about each other (mudslinging between dems and reps). Funny how people get their panties in a wad over Chavez but don't mind that we're good friends with some non-elected leaders, or rather, dictators. Musharraf in Pakistan is a good example, as well as China's leadership. As for assessments of Chavez's intelligence, at least to his credit he was refrencing an author which is foreign to him. Can Bush even name, say, a Latin American writer? Probably not, but then again, that's no surprise considering his well-known lack of intelligence. And that's not me "misunderestimating" him (a word Bush once used). Besides, when Pat Robertson (former Presidential candidate) called for Chavez's death, isn't that even worse than calling Bush the devil? But who on the right took offense to that? Or to the American-supported coup that almost overthrew a democratically-elected Chavez? I thought we're supposed to be spreading democracy, not supressing it! But then again, someone a bit more jaded than me would say....it's the oil, dummy!
