LadyEllen -> cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 5:56:46 AM)

Simple rules, but the more devious the question (and answer) the better. A real test of who's bright in the CM membership!

Solve the clue, and then post another cryptic question.

Example;
Fete is highly compulsive after taking an E (6 letters)
Answer; fetish
(Fete is h.... - take an E = fetish)

So, question number one

1) Longevity of MI6 man restricts him somewhat (7 letters)

E

I'm not sure I understand this and I definitely don't have a clue on the first question. I was wondering if my thinking is right.
"candy is sweeter than you ......equals candidate"
Am I right?

Ok, still thinking about this question.
Longish ????

Hi Sweetly

you're on the right lines - you have to play with the words - could be alternative meanings for them, anagrams and all sorts.

A question with the answer "candidate" might be

"Why is I on this sweet romantic encounter? I'm the nominee"

Nominee = candidate
sweet = candy
romantic encounter = date
y (why) is i, so candy becomes candi
candidate

The answer to question one is something most everyone here will have done. Split it up and I'm sure you'll get the answer;

Who is the MI6 man?
What is longevity?

E

Lady,
Thank you for the quick response. I think I need to consume another cup of coffee before I tackle the first question again.

SweetlyTwisted -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 7:10:38 AM)

Cumming is my final answer to the first question.

The MI6 man wa Mansfield Cumming.
Longevity is length of service.
You cum from being serviced.

I need to go clean the house which does not take some much brain work.
Thanks for the challenge. Hope others can figure out your question.

Hi Sweetly

I dont think anyone is going to try apart from you - thanks for trying though!

Its honestly not that complicated, its a single word, seven letters.
E

siouxie -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 8:16:02 AM)

nope. i have been trying yo figure this one out since i first read it today. i still can't. i'm probably reading too deeply into it - i tend to do that.

LadyEllen -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 9:16:15 AM)

OK  - I'll put you out of your misery!

1) Longevity of MI6 man restricts him somewhat (7 letters)

Longevity = age
MI6 man - James Bond

Bond-age (restricts him somewhat)

Now another;

2) Sounds like Charles beats his chest; it prevents orgasm (2 words, first word 8 letters, second word 4 letters)

E

siouxie -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 9:24:09 AM)

ah - i knew it was bond, wasn't thinking along those lines though.

chastity belt?

LadyEllen -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 9:39:37 AM)

Siouxie - wonderful! You've got it!

Charles = Chas
beats his chest = titty belt (I know!)

how about this one;

3) One cooped up who joins the dawn chorus is made to suffer, along with a sporting object.
4 words; 4 letters, 3 letters, 4 letters, 7 letters

E

Rumtiger -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 10:56:26 AM)

I thought Bond was OHMSS? not MI6? Sorry I just dont remember MI6 being mentioned in any bond films i've seen.

BitaTruble -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 4:01:00 PM)

Nope, not a telephone, but yes.. it is BDSM related. :)

Celeste

LadyEllen -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 4:32:47 PM)

does it end in -ix?

I'm just thinking, ends in digits, and its also nine in Roman numerals, as the end to canine from the dogs bit....

Give me a clue please! I'm good at these, and I'm struggling!

E

siouxie -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/22/2006 7:38:48 PM)

obedience? don't know how it fits, but it is 9 letters!

BitaTruble -> RE: cryptic clues game (9/23/2006 12:15:58 AM)

Ok, here's a clue:

See, don't look.. dogs speak in barks but this is not woof. The silver is crossed, as the old saying goes.. but not vexed don't ya know. ;)

Thought I'd go ahead and answer this before it gets so far down it gets completely lost!

See = C
Dogs speak = ruffs, so C the dogs speak = cruffs

We are not = take away the R from 'cruffs' leaving you with cuffs

Silver holders = palms.. as in, cross the palm with silver to hear your fortune

Digits = fingers ..

Palm + fingers = hand

Hand + cuffs = handcuffs

;)
