This past Friday, I took my first ride on the back of a motorcycle at the age of 40 blah, blah, blah.  I've had many opportunities, but I have always passed on them because I've been affraid.  Boy have I been missing out on a wonderful thrill.  Hmm.  Now where's that bloke that wanted to take me jet skiing and night flying in his four seater.  Next thing you know, I'll be jumping out of air planes, though I've thought of doing that anyway.  Darn.  I guess its never too late.

If it weren't for my vertigo, I'd start saving up to get myself a bike, that was so much fun, think I might have to leave the suit types alone and start dating more  rugged Harley type guys or at least the ones that know when to put the suit away and pic up the helmet.    (I know there's no set type, unbuddle the knickers).

But for those that haven't had the chance to experience riding the wind on the back of a motorcycle, oh my badness, what a funtastic, ethereal ,  feeling you are missing out on.  This is coming from someone that cringes everytimes she has to take a ride in a car too.  Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, totally orgasmic. I want to do it again and again and again and.........  Oh Nearly had sex in the park after the ride, but got control of myself.

If you like a motorcycle just do a nice canter on a fast horse!   Now that really is almost better than sex.  First time i will always remember was in a class riding with English riders while i ride Western Pleasure dang were those gals upset that this Western girl would whoop it up when they were too classy for it lol.  Prefer my own class more cantering allowed lol.

Rosa,

I am glad you are enjoying the pleasures of motorcycling.
It is like sex in other ways as well.  It is safer and better
if you keep your wits about you while doing it.  It is always
best to carefully choose your riding partner.  And it is
always best to have the right equipment, well maintained.

All kidding aside the best book I have ever read about
motorcycles was written by a woman.

The Perfect Vehicle
What It Is About Motorcycles

by Melissa Holbrook Pierson

This is what some others have said about it:

"A must for anyone who has loved a motorcycle"  Oliver Sacks

"Beautifully, and intelligently, written....This book is the best book about
motorcycling that I have ever read."  Nicholas Lezard, Manchester Guardian

"...if your not a biker and always wondered why some people are,
by the end of this book you will understand."  Michael Taylor, San Francisco Chronicle

"This is the book.  Pierson is the first to put into words what we all know but
could never say------what it is to be a motorcyclist."  Sport Rider

"As Pierson tells us why she loves riding, many who share her passion will often
feel themselves nodding, saying, 'Yeah, she caught it.' "  Andy Soloman, Chicago Tribune

Enjoy!!

P.S. My sig line is a quote about motorcycle racers, by a motorcycle racer.

Oh yes.  I've broken into full gallop along the shoreline in Half Moon Bay and it was awesome.  Wind in your hair, sea mist in the air,  ahh, the life...

(sorry for the hijack, just enjoying a memory, lol)

 Outlier,

Thanks for the info; sounds like an interesting read.  I'll look for a copy of that book..

Diamonddreamlove,
I had a hard enough time climbing up on that bike, I'm sure I gave onlookers quite a laugh.  Besides, with my vertigo, a horse is just too high off the ground, I'm sure to get dizzy and fall off.  But I do have friends that invite me to go ridding with them as they go riding most weekends, but I saddly have to decline.

More hijack, sorry:

Melissa Holbrook Pierson's
second book was about women
and horses.  I risked getting it as a gift for a woman psychologist
I knew who loved horses.  It was a risk because I know nothing
about psychology or horses. But she loved the book, read it in one
day and started a correspondence with Ms. Pierson.  So you ladies
who love horses might want to look it up.

Yeah, motorcycles are a lot of fun.  I first learned to ride on ice on a little Yamaha with studded tires when I was a young teen.  I am a thrill seeker by nature though.  The more daring, the better.  I enjoy things like climbing vertical cliffs without ropes and stuff like that.  Anything that pushes the envelope.

You sound a lot like the gent I went ridding with, (not meant in a bad way).  He was telling me all about the time he went climbing and broke his fall by landing on his face breaking bones.  He didn't use rope either.  He's way too adventurous for me, I'm affraid at some point he'd end up getting us arrested for indecent exposure, which we were on the fringe of after that ride.  He's fun to be with but just way too big of a risk taker for my taste.  But he's a safe bike driver.

Welcome to my world.........

Kudos on being bold enough to climb on. Now if you want to ride yourself go take a motorcycle safety course. Do not let the vertigo stop you; i had a friend with vertigo who raced. He used those motion sickness bands you buy at the drug store when it was bad but generally he found he did not need them.

Go buy yourself a cheap little used XR 100 and a set of second hand safety gear, locate a dirt track or ask a friend with a few acres and practice as much as you can.

Or get yourself a pair of boots, tight fitting jeans and a low cut top and smile hard at the hairy dudes on Hawgs; remember if they yell "show me your tits" the proper response is" got beads" or "take me for a putt?"

COOOOOL....!!!!!

So glad your first experience was a good one! The most important thing you did was pick a responsible guy to take you out on that first ride. Someone that puts your safety first!
Years ago I was runnin with a gal who had a girlfriend who was terrified of bikes because her first ride was behind some idiot who was splittin lanes going about warp9 with her on the back. This gal friend of mine finally talked her friend into riding behind me. We jumped on my old choppa and took a nice putt down the hgwy. This gal that was terrified about riding bikes was screaming at the top of her lungs...."I Love it"..."I love it"...!!!!

It's cool to see someone converted...!!!!

Pick your riding partners carefully and ENJOY!

Twices' idea was a great one too.....

Don't get me wrong, I've engaged in sorted acts in outdoor places in the past, just not in very public park in the middle of the afternoon and certainly not right after a park personnel person comes by and puts up area reserved sign where we were fooling around.  I mean you'd think he'd at least want to move to another area no, he wants to carry on right there where any minute a group of party goers may be showing up.

I wish it were just the vertigo holding me back, I have other neurological problems, I had to give up driving a car as well.  Maybe someday down the line when doctors find some better treatments, I'll be able to massage a harley or some such bike with my thighs as a solo rider.
