I don't need to deny anything - if i did drugs it would be my choice and fuck all to do with anyone else. However i don't and never have and its not a coke mirror its a mirror to do things like brush my hair and apply make up in.
Actually though whilst im rambling id lay u a bet that even with our drug usage increase America still has a bigger drug problem than the UK.

So care to explain your fucking self??????????????

meatcleaver -> RE: You Lot in the UK Care to Explain Yourselves? (9/25/2006 3:36:48 PM)

Because the authorities have a very conservative view of drugs in Britain, one gets the added kick of being a naughty boy for buying them before you even take them. Being a rebel adds spice to ones life. Here in Holland because they are pretty laid back about drugs, less people seem to take them, there just isn't a kick in buying them. Most drug takers seem to be drug tourists, that's not to say there aren't a lot of drug users here but it has less of the 'fucking your neighbour's wife' kick. Speaking of which, my neighbour's wife is worth going to jail for.

OK I'm going to be borring and get to thread (don't ask [and I'll not lie]but I have some experience of this in UK work force) it is very difficult in the Uk to have a random drugs testing policy and so the starting point 10 years ago was about zero testing with exception of Railways, Aircraft and a few other "very high risk" activities. Whilst some companies tried to bring in random dope tests during 90s / earlt 2000s most companies that did this ran into very big problems and backed off introducing pre employement drugs screening and also screening after 2an incident at work". Most actual tests are pre-employement tests. From experience I am aware of a high number of people who have pre-employment tested positve and so lost their positions and also a few positives following incdients. 3000% of bugger all is still bugger all !!. Main culprits after the medical profession are temporary workers and the generally low paid paticularly in the food and cleaning industries. Use of private investigators wihi the workforce to identify culprits once there is thought to be a concern is quite common and frequently results in people voluntarily leaving the work force once they are presented with the eidence.
On alcohol - shift workers who go out on the town and are still over most sane limits when they go into work are the type I have come across most often being caught. Sales reps who do it on company expences rarely hit the spot light inside or outside of their companies.

One of the biggest problems is similar to the one atheletes present which is all the beurocracy (spelling !! LOL) involved in transfer ad security of the sample.

"3,000% rise in workers who test positive for cocaine use"
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article1726070.ece

[:D]

This is an OUTRAGE!

Cocaine shows up on drug tests no longer than 24-48 hours after use.

If 10 people tested positive out of 500,000 tests last year, and 300 people tested positive out of 500,000 tests this year, that would be a 3000% increase.

Im sorry, what was the question again?

p.s.  This whole thread seems to me to be merely an attempt by the OP to pick a fight.  Some people need to get a hobby.

Hi NG

Well, considering I'm membership secretary for the local LibDems, you were kind of right....! The day I vote tory after what Thatcher did to this country, will be a very long time from now.

Mind you, seeks makes a good case too - but mainly as to my spelling ability, under the influence of a thousand quid's worth of cocaine!

Where do The Independent get their figures from?  I mean, do they poll dealers throughout the country and say "How's business?"

Good point from Sinergy on how %'s can be used to give a false impression. The road safety lobby do it all the time.!

"Philosophy - one of the independent parties such as Respect or the Welsh Independence Party."

........pretty good, i'll vote Plaid when they ditch the anti-english racism, but until then vote Green to nudge the other parties into remembering the issue. Think global, act local........lol....however gorgeous george isn't my cup of tea i'm afraid........i haven't been able to really think of myself as a socialist since i was chucked out of the LPYS for laughing years ago........

Yeah. Socialists aren't allowed to laugh, you could face being internally exiled in Grimethorpe without a club affiliation card.

They obviously thought you were snorting coke - so you had to be a tory spy as in those days the likes of us couldnt have afforded cocaine.

......reminds me a bit of when Childline was started...there was a massive rise in the reported incidence of child abuse, people blamed the helpline.........thing is, unlike the states where i saw groceries boasting of a drug testing policy, such a thing as employee drug testing is novel in the UK. There may well have been a rise in the reported incidence, but i reckon its much more likely to do with the increase in tests being made......revealing a truer figure.

Woah!  That's shocking!  And a little embarrassing being a Brit through and through.  However, I totally agree with the latter statement made by Philosophy.  What is worrying is that I have never come across employers who have asked their employees for a drugs test.  Maybe we should increase the testing still.

Hmmmm. Makes me wonder what we'd do when 75% of the workforce were sacked for being drunk or drugged at work........!

If only it had. Anything could have been better than the social destruction of Britain from within that Thatcher brought about. A legacy with which we are still living and which was the source for so much that is just wrong in our society today.

Did they happen to mention who was taking the drugs? I mean are we talking about the young guy who works in tescos smoking a joint or the office manager snorting coke at lunch time?

It's implying both and not really distinguishing between drug use to boost performance and the aftermath of a weekend on the lash.

From a personal point of view, I'm not convinced drug use in the office is that widespread. I know of only one person caught doing drugs at work and that was a girl with heroin.

Socially, I'm scratching my head and can only think of a few people I know who don't do drugs of some sort at the very least on a weekend.

There is an element of the "fuck it" attitude about us as a society and we'll have a crack at most things (at odds with the impression that some foreigners have of us). I'm not convinced it's the "naughty boy" syndrome described by MC - more a case that young people in this country tend to want to indulge themselves in all sorts of arenas - whether it be drug use, alcohol use, sex, crime, eating, consumerism on clothes that cost half the price in other parts of Europe - you name it we indulge ourselves more than other young Europeans.
