I thought the US national sports were...
Playing rounders, baseball, in their pajamas
Playing football dressed up as space men
Shooting one another on a Saturday night.

Thats what I heard !

Not as compelling for the conservatives?  Is it a task for you to speak without bashing Republicans?

It has nothing to do with them.  It is the media sensationalizing it.  Cops get killed all the time.  Do you think the media gives a shit if it was some middle class white guy that shot one?  Of course not.

So, if you can not post without pointing the fingers, lay the blame where it belongs.  On the media.

i, personally, just consider the source of the news when i lay blame, or point fingers.... ;)
And if you'd like to get into a disagreement about the media being liberal or conserative.... start another thread, i'd be happy to give my opinions on THAT paticular subject there.
As for me ALWAYS pointing blame, that's so funny, this is my third post.
Who knew someone who makes 3 posts could cause such ripples......
Frankly, my *opinion* is that you're merely a republican who knows full and well you should feel ashamed.... thus your hurried finger pointing and   quick tempered response.
This is *so* why i never post anything! :)

i'm sorry, i was incorrect....
my tenth post here.....  that's what we get for improper fact checking!  But i'm sure you'll point that out in your good time! :)

Reading my post 21 it seems very callous in a way that I didn't intend, but surely its a fair point to make that if you allow large numbers of people to arm themselves it doesn't take many nutcases or just downright wicked people to do a lot of harm.

I support that, if the proposed measure would include the converse.

Ron
In Texas they do have a law that speaks to that point.  It is legal to resist illegal arrest with deadly force in Texas.
There was a fellow named Gregorio Cortez who Killed a couple of sherrifs and a deputy or two.

Well Mr T, I would sooner someone was rude to me rather than shoot me if I was rude to them.
If only it was that simple !

LadyEllen -> RE: Illegal kills Houston cop (10/11/2006 3:08:49 AM)

If everyone has a gun, then everyone has a gun.

It doesnt make people more or less polite. There are nice people and jerks everywhere. The nice people will still be nice with a gun, the jerks will still be jerks with a gun.

And to paraphrase the ancient Asatru Lore;

One bad word is one too many when spoken to an evil man
And when swords start talking, the better man often comes off worse.

This thread reminds me of a woman's programme on the BBC about shopping in New York. One woman said to the other, American shop assistants are incredibly polite, isn't it all a little plastic? The other woman said, I would rather be told to have a good day by someone who doesn't mean it than told to 'fuck off!' by someone who did. I think they forgot to tell us that American shop assistants are incredibly polite because the customer might pull out a magnum!

I guess your statement sort of begs the question ...why would you be intentionally rude to someone?  Don't you feel that civilized people can disagree without being disagreeable?
I have had more than one person on this forum tell me to "kiss my ass"(I find this appropriate in a domme but simply rude from a man)...many I know would find this sort of behaviour to be rude.
Scooter and I tend to associate with some of the same people who would take exception to this sort of statement in a physical manner.
Being rude to one another is the way we encourage violent reaction to our behaviour.
My name is thompson not Mr. T or thom.
No, I will not shoot you if you are rude to me I will just assume that you are a rude person.
Courtesy encourges courtesy... rudness encourages rudeness.

would it make a difference if someone who was LEGAL killed him...murder is murder and i could care less if it's a cop killed or a homeless person...MURDER IS WRONG.

Well apparently it makes a big difference to some people here. If I have it right....and you are an illegal alien who kills a cop then you are scum....BUT....if you are a cop and you kill a whole bunch of illegal aliens with your car and you are travelling at 112 miles an hour when you do it then you're a hero. At least that is what I've gotten out of these conversations from some folks here.

I was living in Texas when the carry concealed law went into affect - the crime rate dropped 20% in the first month - surprising how people won't pull a gun on someone if they think there's a possibility the other person might have a gun also.

The problem with gun laws is that it only keeps guns away from the legal owners and an extremely small percentage of nutcases.  Criminals don't go to the store and buy guns (paper trail) or register them (giving information about themselves to cops isn't high on their list), they get them on the black market (which the gun laws can't enforce).

So, if you take all the guns away from the honest citizens, only the criminals will have them.  Great Britian tried that - they took all the guns away from the honest people (even the collectible ones) and gun crimes went way up in England.

Alcohol prohibition didn't work, drug "prohibition" isn't working, why would gun prohibition work?

You know, the "Right to Bear Arms" isn't about hunting and crime and such; it's about the populus being able to rise up against government tyranny - so put on your jackboots boys and girls; it's time to march to Washington!!! ROFL

LotusSong -> RE: Illegal kills Houston cop (10/11/2006 12:07:21 PM)

Maybe he needed killin'.  They do have a "Needed Killing" law in Texas you know.

If you were referencing the State Patrolman in Nevada, we'll be able to find him thru his bailbondsman.

Examples of polite societies that have guns include...

The American West
Iraq
Iran
Sri Lanka
Indonesia
India
Pakistan
Afghanistan
Colombia
Nicaragua

And the list goes on.

While I have heard many people espouse the need for guns by indicating that guns make people polite, History teaches that armed societies generally are not as polite as they are made out to be by the True Believers In Gun Ownership.

The main exception, I suppose, would be feudal Japan.  Although they used swords to kill each other, and as long as everybody lived in their own little caste bubble, everything was hunky dory.

Which is not to say that I am anti-gun or anti-politeness, I am simply stating that the number of examples of impolite armed societies far outnumber the number of polite armed societies.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Well yes I was....but I was not referring to what has or has not happened to him.....only to the opinions of some on here about what they "think" should happen to him. I was appalled to find that some here believe nothing should happen to him because the people who died were ONLY illegal aliens.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Illegal kills Houston cop (10/11/2006 1:34:08 PM)

I wonder how many Christians are actually HERE?? A life is a life plain and simple. Read the Bible. (twice if necessary) I didn't read anywhere bout it saying illegal aliens lives are unworthy ....If they committ a crime they should be punished, agreed....
