For prevention of pregnancy on fertile days...condoms, an assortment of other birth control products with and without hormones, have a vasectomy, or simply play in ways that don't involve any semen or per-ejaculate anywhere near the vagina. Is it safe to scene during the fertile period and menstruation? As far as I know. Tolerances to strong sensation may vary on different days of the menstrual cycle. Pregnancy would require quite a bit more caution. If as an above poster suggested, you are concerned about the mess of the first few days of the menstraul cycle (period, Aunt Flo, whatever you call it), pick a hormonal birth control that will supress menstruation (many can safely do this for quite a while) or have the female sub use an Instead (a flexible cup to catch menstrual fluid that rests just under the cervix and is not visible externally). They're pretty much no fuss. If your play includes vaginal intercourse, you will be happy to know that the Instead can be safely left in place during penetration and many men don't even feel that it is there.
