ORIGINAL: cuddleheart50 A woman that lives in my county has come down with the west nile virus. I have been so worried since I heard this. Does that mean that the virus is here where I live? Once a person comes down with it, do others get it too? I know nothing about it and it just has me so worried since it is now so close to home. West Nile is probably not all that much more dangerous than flu, and in particular when you consider how easily flu spreads and how hard it is for West Nile to spread, all this hype is ridiculous fear-mongering. Take reasonable precautions against mosquitos and go about your life. If you are really worried about health, don't smoke, be active, keep your cholesterol and blood pressure normal, don't allow excess weight to cause diabetes, wear a seat belt, don't keep guns in the home, get regular medical screening tests for your age, gender, and risk factors, and then start being paranoid about mosquitos, Spinach, and other exposures to rare infectious agents.
