Dtesmoac -> RE: Cost of medical treatment / insurance in the US (9/27/2006 5:44:28 PM)

Majik sounds as if you have the best deal going. To find which doctor we could go to involved looking at web sites and two phone calls to the provider to work out / check that we understood the process correctly. The more I find out about the medical system over here the more I am totally astounded that anyone defend it at all. I just assumed I had got it wrong, but also apparently after paying the co pay (a $25 charge on top of what the insurance company pays) for seeing the doctor there could also be a few hundreds of dollars co pay for seeing a specialist or having x rays, test etc, and that is if you DO have medical insurance. Well will be experiencing the US system in the next few months and should be able to accurately compare but at the moment the US system seems a very costly wolrd gone nuts method of providing medical care for the worlds richest nation. If you are dieing of a disease such as cancer or motor neurons does the medical system simply let you die without treatment or is there some kind of "critical life threat cover" you are all entitled to?
