MSNBC News Services

DALLAS - 7-Eleven Inc. is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier after more than 20 years as part of a previously announced plan by the convenience store operator to launch its own brand of fuel.

7-Eleven officials said Wednesday that the company’s decision was partly motivated by politics.

Citgo Petroleum Corp. is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-run oil company and 7-Eleven is worried that anti-American comments made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez might prompt motorists to fill-up elsewhere.

popeye1250 -> RE: 7-Eleven Dumps Citgo (9/27/2006 4:28:24 PM)

I never buy Citgo gasoline.

thompsonx -> RE: 7-Eleven Dumps Citgo (10/4/2006 10:07:39 PM)

Oil from Venezuela is called "light sweet crude"  it is necessary to mix this light sweet crude with oils of higher sulphur content to functionalize them.  So no matter what gasoline you buy it will have been mixed with Venezuelan oil.  Oil is an international business and all the posturing is just so much politics.
Hugo Chavez is the democratically elected president of Venezuela and Bush & co. have tried several times to assassinate him.
I am curious why you dislike him?

I will buy Citgo

I do not see Chavez's comments about Bush as anti American. I mean there was an attempted coup against him such as others the USA has been involved in

Almost every coup in South America was instigated by America for economic interests.. its not like Chavez has no reason to worry, I mean Kissinger is advising Bush and look what fascist regimes he has backed in the past... Chavez has reasons to worry. I am sure Chavez can find someone else to buy his oil... he does not need us after all

On another note, Saudi Arabia has human rights abuses, no democracy, many of their citizens are terrorists... (some of which have attacked us), and we are not demonizing Prince Bandar.. no Bush holds hands with him

nefertari -> RE: 7-Eleven Dumps Citgo (10/4/2006 11:01:08 PM)

Yes, but Chavez calls a spade a spade and doesn't take any crap from anyone.  Bush can't handle that.

Well the boycott will probably work as well as the one orchestrated against the Dxie Chicks

BlkTallFullfig -> RE: 7-Eleven Dumps Citgo (10/4/2006 11:44:22 PM)

Shotgun Dick was asked in a television interview what his response was to Chavez's statement that he might quit selling oil to the U.S.
Cheny's response was that we would simply go and take it.

What is called "Light sweet" is the basis for gasoline.  It comes from many different places on the globe, including the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, The North Sea, etccc..  It is not specific to Venezuela.

I'd like to see a link to that, before I'd believe it.

I am sorry I do not have a link for this but it was on "Meet the Press"  and Tim Russert was the interviewer.  It was several weeks ago so it should not be too hard to find if you are interested in checking it out.
