And?  You do understand 7-11 was moving to their own branded gas anyway so this was just a hey look at us thing.  Now ask yourself where the gas they are going to label 7-11 is going to come from?

Psst psst,  not to burst your bubble but don't be shocked if it still comes from Citgo.

Venezula is one of the largest suppliers of oil to the US.  Exxon/Mobile, Shell,  have huge fields in Venezula.  So if you don't want to support Venezula your best bet is to not buy any gas.

Most gas comes from two companies in the US anyway.  Odds are as they said...coming from outside of the US to begin with.

Well, the 7-11 here is dirty and last week when I bought a quart of milk, it was already sour when I brought it home, even though the expiration date was 6 days away.  I'll be sticking with the "other" convenience store up the road.

We do not have 7/11...Our equivalent is Mac's, and they are almost all owned by foreigners.  Of all the variety stores around here I know of one is owned by a native Canadian.  The rest are either Chinese or Pakistani/Indian.  One family is Greek.  Interestingly enough, though, most of our cab drivers are locals.

Anyways, what is the fascination with Citgo gas?  What am I missing?

Citgo got all or most of their gas from Venezuala, home of their President Chavez, the asswipe that made a spectacle of himself at the UN recently.

Not entirely true.  7-11 is owned by the Southland Corporation.  True most franchisees are from pakistan.
However a franchisee only owns 49% of the business.  Southland keeps control of 51%...they can remove a franchisee at any time for any reason.  Most are ripping off the company.
Problem is with the business strategy Southland gives them you cannot make a profit and the only way to make one is by ripping off the corporation.
Plus..owning a 7-11 is dirt cheap as far as franchises go.  If you are a corporation employee you can own one as cheap as 10,000.  A pakinstanee can own one as cheap as 30,000 which our government gives them to help out the immigrants.

Don't ask how I know so much....I could go on and on.

Ohhhhhh.    So where are they going to get it from now though?  If Venezuala is the USA's main supplier, who else are they going to turn to for oil?  Are they not cutting off their nose to spite their face?

The best thing in the world that can happen is for all the entities -- who both control and produce petroleum products –  to hate each other – That way it lessens the chance for them to collude and fix prices.

That last thing in the world the people on this message board should want is for US and British corporations to monopolize have oligarchicical-control over all the petroleum products and petroleum producing capacity.

The thing to remember is that every entity that produces oil has to sell it…..so if corporations in the west boycott Hugo Chavez and Citgo….that just means that Venezuela will work to produce more and then sell more oil to China or Japan.

Even during the height of the ''oil for food'' scandal with Saddam still in control of production, gas rarely if ever went above two bucks a gallon. Now that Iraq's oil fields and production are under the control of another entity, people here have smiles on their faces because they feel lucky to be paying 2.40 a gallon. What do you think it might be like if those other entities had the same control over Venezuela?

''Sticks and stones may break your bones but names can never hurt you'' Regardless of how you personally feel for Hugo Chavez….someone will buy his oil, like it or not.

The only difference will be that Venezuella will not get the extra profit they get buy producing refining and selling the gasoline, all under the Citgo name. Granted we will be likely still buying Venexuellan Oil, but they will only get the $X per barrel not the $X per barrel + the profit on the gasoline as well.

It's not going to hurt Venezuella that much, as has been said even if we don't buy any oil from them, they will find buyers somewhere.  That will free up oil from other places for us to buy that had been selling to whoever was buying form them before.

But Bravo to the Thompson Brothers for finding a good time to advance the schedule of something they wanted to do anyway.

I'm just waiting for someone to say that the next step is for 7-11 to stop hiring aliens behind the counter.

I don't know who the Thompson Brothers are but they don't own or control 7-11. A Japanese company called Seven & I Holdings Co. does.

I just find it amazing how uninformed the usual right wing mafia is although I guess it shouldn't come as any surprise.

Lead NY Times

LEAD: Shareholders of the Southland Corporation approved a $4.9 billion leveraged buyout, putting the nation's largest convenience store chain in private hands. The buyout by the company's founders, the Thompson family, is expected to be closed next Tuesday, said Markeeta McNatt, a Southland spokeswoman.

But that article was written back in 1987 - Did you not realize that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Eleven

In November of 2005, Seven & I Holdings Co. took over and completed the purchase.

Uhmm that is very old and out of date news.

Note the dateline of Dec. 9 1987.
Now go to the actual 7-11 website at:
http://www.7-eleven.com/about/history.asp
And scroll down to the bottom of the page:
quote:

In November 2005, 7-Eleven, Inc. became an indirect subsidiary of Seven & I Holdings Company, a Japan-based organization.

So it looks like the Thompsons long ago lost control.
