My son and I went to a Chinese Resturant last night, and he told me that he was going to eat an octopus(he knows I have a very weak stomach when it comes to that kind of stuff), As he was chewing it, he said...mmmm, chewy!...I almost barfed!!  Now, I'm going to show him this link and what he just ate last night.

Just thought I would share.

Octopus russian roulette. Pick a leg each, and the one who gets the Thick vein in the middle pays for the meal

Well Cuddleheart,
I have grossed out my wife and kids many times with some of the wierd stuff that I have eaten over the years, but as a Chef you need to be somewhat adventurous in eating different foods. Personally I love octopus in my sushi and I love Calimari or squid prepared either in a Sopa de Pesca (italian literally means "soup of fish") or in a light batter and deep fried and served with a nice Caesar salad where I make the dressing with anchovies. You should be glad that your son is somewhat adventurous in eating different foods, he will not be the one sitting at the table with nothing to eat.

Your son just ate the most intelligent invertebrate.  That wiki article says they are as smart as house cats.  Who knew?
I've never eaten octopus, but my Dom is so worldly, he probably has.  Or he'd at least try it.  While I'd ask for a steak.  Well done.  Yes, I know that is wrong.

LOL yes I also have enjoyed octopus prepared in several different oriental dishes. I worked at the Polynesian resort at Walt Disney World, and the oriental chefs would always be fixing something exotic and it often had octopus involved.

Octopus is good stir fried or in sushi. It gets very tough if over cooked even a little b ut purportedly gets edible again if stewed for a long time like squid in sopa de pesca.

I love trying exotic foods and the only things I stay away from now is authentic kimchee and durian.

How much did the Chinese restaurant get for selling the octopus' organs for transplantation I wonder?

Was this octopus caught in US waters without satisfactory legal papers?

Damned octopi - they deserve all they get!

Actually, I think its a shame to eat them - they're amazing creatures that provide a far better spectacle than they surely ever could a meal.

Soon all we shall have left from the ocean is squid and jellyfish. The oceans are becoming more toxic and reverting back to a more primordial stew:

I love fried Calimari.

Thus the reason the italians call octopus soup "Sopa be Bupi" almost like a spicy Bouillabaise with just octopus in it

I wasn't too fond of the octopus when I had it in a sushi joint -- just seems chewy and not much flavor.

Now, gimme some sea urchin . . . . mmmmmmm yummy even if it does look like a big, orange phlegm ball and has the same consistency!
