Most people can't use punctuation, capitalisation, formatting or grammar to save their lives anyway.

Yes yhat was obvious here:

I've tried to do it... I've made a mental effort to remember to capitalize Dominant, Mistress, Master and all that.... I just keep forgetting.

My training through out my educational years keeps kicking back in.. damnit all.. and I forget to cap words mid-sentence. I think it's an online thing... you know, like in case the individual we are speaking to can't really read all that well but does recognize capital letters and therefore know it must be an important word or something like that.

That's ok, in real life I keep forgetting to add that "may" sound at the end of the dom as well.

JuliaOceania may not be allowed to say LOL  but I will say it here for her.  Also, if you forget to say "Dommmay"  you can always make up for it by having to say "Capital D Capital D Capital D Domme"  That should fix you.

I've never really gotten into the Uppercase, lowercase online method of typing. For a good while it drove me insane, I used to be Editor In Chief for a BDSM print who would print submitted stories and writings. On more than one occasion I nearly gave up on attempting to make edit submissions. The most frustrating were Gor submissions between two persons of the same gender, in third party. For example "she laid her head in Her lap to show her submission to She who was Goddess while her thoughts settled, and She spoke to her."

A few hours of that is enough to drive anyone mad.
In chat rooms I admit that uppercase and lowercase can be nice for those looking to speak with someone of one role or another, but even there, I don't pay much attention. If someone wants to know me, read my profile, ask me questions...

Seems to be a rather lazy thing. Ironic too. "Don't judge me by appearances.." "Don't label me...." then we do crap like that.

Sincerely
Silver

I advocate the use of capitalization for several reasons, mutual respect being most notable. It also shows Me shes paying attention. As well I find it pleasing.

SLT:  That part is understood...about why your sub should do it.  But why would you?  What about referring to yourself that way do you find pleasing?

I don't bother with most of it, haha. When I refer to my Dom, similar to how juliaoceana refers to her Daddy, these things become replacements for a first name, and thus I capitalize it. I capitalize "I" but not "my", just like in ordinary grammar, and I am asked specifically to not worry about lowercasing that "I" or capitalizing "his", when referring to my owned status. Some things, like "Master, Mistress, Dom, Domme, Sir, Ma'am, Dominant", etc., I capitalize for reference's sake and respect, but I see these things like job titles in a way- Corporate Executive Officer, Technician, etc., and capitalize those when appropriate- when referring to someone specific or a group of specific people, not necessarily when speaking of these things as a concept.
Just my thoughts...

Reply to OP:

I think it started out as a way online and in chatrooms, to tell who was of the dominant pursuasion as opposed to who was submissive.  Then I think some of the dominant/master types took it a step further and began to capitalize the "Me My" etc because it makes them feel more dominant.  I dont know.  I use a small m in this forum, but of course in a professional setting I would type my name as Marie.  I like my little m.  Its representative of me; small and shy, and sometimes understated, but always noticed when I want to be.  Ok thats alot to read into a lower case letter, but thats why I like it..  I use a period at the end of my name as well.  To me thats like saying...It all stops right here.  End of sentence, end of story. I have isssues. lmaoo

Hi all,

I have been reading a bunch of posts this evening and for some reason, it really stood out that some people capitalize their personal pronouns in the middle of sentences (We took a ride in My car.  he always bring Me My coffee in the morning)

The idea of inconsistent capitalization is not foreign to me (Me?)  For example, I have insisted that my submissive capitalize my name and lower case his own, but this was an exercise and a way of instilling a certain consciousness into his writing.

But why would someone do it to themselves??  Just curious.

Hello A/all,

Methinks juliaoceania misspoke her statement that she is not allowed to type LOL.  I tend to be pretty laid back most of the time, and the highest goal I ever really aspired to in life was best represented by Jeff Bridge's character in The Big Lebowski.  I have failed miserably in that goal, largely because I enjoy working and enjoy getting paid, but I figure goals in life are important to have.  Even ones that I may never achieve.

In my years as a professional webmaster, and as one who hacked into various CSU accounts around 1984 to post on message boards and use Talk, etc., I have seen people use LOL fairly frequently.  My issue I generally have with it stems from the idea that if a statement is actually amusing, why does a person need to put LOL at the end to remind me it is funny?

If it is not amusing, putting LOL at the end doesnt make it funny.

So I mentioned to juliaoceania that I do not really care for her doing it, she simply took that statement and ran with it.  If I felt really emotionally involved in stamping out LOL on the net, I would write a filter program in C to excise every instance of it which happened to cross my computer so that my virgin eyes would not be blinded by that bane of human consciousness.

The whole Dommay thing has given me a lovely ear worm.  Think of the song Barbara Ann from the late 1950s.

"D D D D D Dommay..."

The horror!

Sinergy
