QuietDom -> Vetwrap, or bondage tape. (10/1/2006 5:03:02 AM)

I've had a roll of vetwrap in my toybag awaiting use.  I still haven't played with it, but I did cut a piece off recently for a sprained wrist, and thought it worked great, although its ability to be reused is clearly limited.  I haven't tried adult-store bondage tape yet, but I know that some people are quite enthused about it.  Has anybody tried both?  What was your preference?

Since I don't want to throw out a question without also offering some information, I'll throw out a recommendation.  For applications where vetwrap and bondage tape are too wide, such as binding fingers together, try electrical tape.  If you get the cheapest brand of tape you can find, you'll find that the adhesive is too weak to adhere to the subject's skin, but the tape will adhere to itself well enough, making it a suitable, non-reusable substitute for the other two.

ive used vet wrap for many years with my show dogs on their ears. If it is too wide you can cut it down the middle ..ie for finger bondage...etc

I've successfully reused Vetrap, both in it's equine applications over stable  bandages or tail wraps, and in dungeon applications where you might be doing mummification.  I'll especially do this if there has been little sweat, the wrap has been over clothing, or if it's being re-used on the same person.

Save the cardboard inside, leaving just a minimal little piece on it.  I generally put a piece of masking tape around that bottom layer, since that's the anchor that I intend to leave on the cardboard tube.  It helps catch the bandage and get it started to re-wrap.  When you're finished, unwrap the subject by wrapping the bandage onto the little tube.

Vetrap can be straightened out -- it's a conformable elastic paper/fabric -- but when it's reached it's limits for wear or dirt, it will rip very readily.

I think the adult store bondage tape that you're referring to is a vinyl material.  You can easily reach the same result with saran wrap -- I buy mine in a restaurant supply store by the large roll.  You can also get pallet packing guns through a shipping supplier -- they are super flexible plastic sheeting rolls on a handle!

My Dom also used vetrap to make underwear with.  Was not my favorite thing but was definitely interesting!

Vetwrap can be extremely dangerous if used incorrectly because of it's tensile strength.  Bondage tape is much easier on the circulation.  It takes someone with a great deal of experience to be able to use vetwrap without causing damage to tiny veins and capillaries, not to mention tendons if vetwrap is too tight around an ankle, or other joint where tendons are very near the surface of the skin..

I use both, at different times, for different effects.

I never  re use either product, both are tossed when I'm finished, but then economy is not exactly as important to me as the visual effects of bondage when I'm done rigging.

For quick, fun bondage sessions, bondage tape wins hands down.

For restrictive mummification, saran wrap and vetwrap are indespensible.

Actually Vet wrap is safer simply because it can be cut off rather quickly,,, where tape is harder to do that with.

Ok.  well, I've used both and enjoy both, but they definately both have their drawbacks.  Of the two, bondage tape is better for it's re-usability and WASHability.  Both stretch a bit, but after a few layers of vetwrap the stretch is lost (which is good for stringent bondage, but bad for circulation).  Since there's no adhesive, the tape can be cut just as easily as the vet wrap.  The same day I bought my tape I bought a pair of safety scissors with serrated edges.

Plastic wrap is lots of fun, but when you get several layers over skin the edges can roll up and anyone who has experienced this knows how quickly it ruins a scene.  This is why many people use tape with the plastic/pallet/seran wraps.  Once it starts rolling it gets much tighter and loses it's stretch, which is what makes it so good for wrapping pallets, when it's in "string" form it's amazingly strong.

I've had my hands wrapped in both for puppy play.  I sweat more in the bondage tape because it doesn't breath.  The downside to vetwrap is that it's cloth-like and has a carpet effect to it, pressing it tightly against the skin and then putting weight on it leaves bumps all over (similar to when someone has been roped tightly and the rope is taking off, you can see the outline of the rope in the flesh).  A gentle massage makes it go away, but we go back to the loss of circulation discussion, and the longer the vet-wrap is on the more it "dries" (I believe the moisture effects how it stretches - you can feel the difference between a brand new unused roll that's out of it's wrapper for a few days and one that's just been opened), the less comfortable it gets.
