Many of us knew we were missing out on something, that we were not happy with the life we were leading, but did not know there was something else out there. one always had wanted a marriage where the man was actually the 'man of the house', where he was in control of the entire house, including this one as his wife.

one did not know that there was actually an alternative out there, did not learn about Dominants and submissives, Masters and slaves, till one was in one's 40's. Once this one discovered this, then there was a lot of learning, a lot of self-discovery that had to go on.

Interesting question because I can recall thinking that about other folks only a few times in my life. So now the cynic in me thinks he says that because those women aren't who he wants them to be, or it is part of the pick-up line: "Ah, little one, you don't know who you are. Come submit to SirDomlyDom and I will help you discover the real you."

That's not bad compared to some of the other silly approaches, and there enough chicks searching for "something" that one ought to fall for it.
