OK - this is a variation on the ever popular(?) popularity threads, and those awful "balloon debates" we did in my school.

The Earth is being evacuated because of, oh lets say global warming or whatever. There is one spaceship left on the launch pad, specially reserved for CM members.

Who would you nominate for a seat on this evacuation, scheduled to leave just before the Earth becomes uninhabitable and anyone left behind perishes?

You can nominate yourself and one other only - and you have to give a cogent reason why you and the other person should get seats (eg, "coz she's priddy" does not apply!).

I believe that unless you allow the line because she's pretty, then you can drag every artist, biologist, anthropologist and geneticist off the ship. Millions of years of human evolution have led to a set of personable aesthetics, as a blueprint for our building and designing, choice of a mate, cultural views of beauty. Of course, if you're steering the ship, and are planning to establish a new ideal of aestheticism (blonde hair, blue eyes and nice white skin?) then you'll have to accept it as a valid reason.

Well, I'll be noble. I dont want a seat - without medical intervention I'd be crippled within a week or so anyway, so it'd be a waste of a seat. I'll wave you off though.

In my place, I'll nominate CrappyDom - because the new world will need someone to scrutinise it, and if he's left here he'll drive us all crazy with conspiracy theories as to why he's not on the spaceship LOL!

And for my second nomination, I'll choose Philosophy, because the new world will need someone with his optimism and values.

Sorry gals. Must be the HRT or something.

If you're building  some intricate space shuttle, whose purpose is to withstand the conditions in space, it's a given that you've got to use quality materials.  The same principle should apply to building a civilization...........you've got to make sure you find the best of the harvest: those who are intellectually, emotionally, and physically able to make the cut, and get things RIGHT the second time around.

And now, I'd like to nominate myself, along with Amayos and IcevampVvvV, to be part of a  small group of the VERY, VERY, few elite males allowed to make this voyage.  IcevampVvvV is hot, and Amayos is diabolically handsome, and damn intelligent enough to make some mighty fine progeny.  There are a couple of other guys that would make good selections, but that really narrows the range of variety for every other male on board.  If you disagree with me, you're wrong.  Allowing just one other person is far too narrow to make a sound decision.

Okay, as the possibly the first to do so, I would like to answer the OP properly.

I would nominate myself, cuz I'm fucking hilarious (But looks aren't everything) and Aine, cuz with her, it would be easy (and fun!) to repopulate the new world, more or less like rabbits, hopefully without the grass-eating part.

Yours,

benji

Edited because you don't need to know I'm "Yours," twice per post.  Once is enough for all y'all troglodites.

I would take my Daddy because he knows a lot of handy stuff and I get along well with him. sooooo here are my reasons

1)We will not kill each other on the long space voyage to a new home IE he is funny, even tempered, and kind to small animals

2) He knows about science stuff and star stuff, so he can be a compass if you will, which I would need badly, he also understands computers much better than I do.

3) He is a great lover

4) He always has a book around him to read if I get bored...smiles.

Well, I'd like to say that I would nominate Himself. With his medical, scientific and engineering expertise, he's a natural for such a journey, however, he wouldn't go without me and I would not be qualified by my own criteria because I can't have children even though my various other skills, such as the ability to make homemade beer and wine would, at least, make the trip more entertaining. ::chuckles::

Since we will be doomed to perish with the planet, I'll have to put Sinergy up for nomination because him strong like bull, he's bright, well rounded, funny and can kick the ass of all those alien cockroaches. Since I would give up my seat to someone else, I'd turn over my nomination to him for his traveling companion because I'd choose julia automatically.. but for a fluff, romantic sort of cupid-like reason. ::chuckles::

LOL celeste.. here is the deal, Sinergy has been fixed and he shoots blanks (notice that I did not put that on the list of why I would take him)... so perhaps we can all four leave planet earth together for our different strengths and weaknesses so humankind will not perish

So much for assumptions! Well, I wasn't fixed, but I am sterile. Himself however, can help with repopulation ... maybe a little IVF? ::laughs:: If it doesn't work out and we're prevented from boarding the ship, the party's at my house! We may go down, but I'm gonna rock it hard till the end.

::it's just an expression::
