Come now Chaingang ... you must know that these laws are actually in place to protect guys with good jobs, from High School girls. [;)][;)]

That's well said, Caitlyn.

I believe that the age of consent should be set lower than 18, possibly down to either 15 or maybe even as low as 13. I am considering physical maturity more so than I am considering emotional maturity attempting to arrive at an age below which no one could reasonably dispute a person is too young to consent to adult sexual activities. [Just as an aside here, consider that Juliet from Shakespeare's famous "Romeo and Juliet" is actually still merely 13 when her parents consider marrying her off to County Paris. Not really that shocking, okay?] Once this question is more firmly settled and more reasonable, I would have no problem supporting legislation making sexual conduct with a minor punishable by life-long sentences.

But right now, as others have pointed out, a 16 year old can be prosecuted in some places for having sex with another 16 year old. I think when I was a young man I was 18 and my girlfriend was 17 (scandalous, I know). In my book, those are not criminal activities because everyone involved is actually capable of responsible sexual behavior. Those kinds of vagaries need to be removed from the laws on the subject. It's too stupid.

If we waited for actual emotional maturity to set in, some people might never arrive. It's too ambiguous an idea.

In Holland the age of consent is 14 and I really should check how things work because there is, I think, a two year age range until 16. So two 14 year olds can have sex as can a 16 year old with a 14 year old and I doubt anything would be done with a 17 and a 15 year old or maybe a 14 year old. The point of the law is to protect minors from adults, not from each other which is seen as part of growing up.

One more time this is not about 16 yr olds.

These men  set up meetings with the INTENT! of having sex with a 12, 13 yr old.  if this prevents even one of those men from actually harming a child that is enough for me- why should any kid have to be abused First?

There are two issues here:

1) Is sex with a 13 years old deserving of a long jail sentence. Yes.

2) Is entrapment a legitimate means of securing a conviction. No.

As MC said, today you're not the object of entrapment but next year you could be if the state decides your worthy of their attention. It is the method that is the issue here because if entrapment is considered the norm they have the power to use this tool on whoever they want to turn their attention to (if legitimised in society).

It's entrapment either way,, I have a problem with dishonest tactics as well as pedo's so it's a bind.

I think any such laws have to distinguish the age of the other party also, or perhaps an age gap. I lost my virginity at the age of 13, the person that helped me mislay it was also 13. Did she legally rape me, or I her? I think it matters, and I don't think it was a criminal act on anyone's part. And it wasn't just once, these *ACTS* went on for the next 2.5 years. What's the penalty for that? Whatever it is, I don't want to pay it.

FWIW, if I were to show you pictures of either myself or the girl in question we both look like we are in our 20s probably - both of us, at the age of 13.

I have had the good fortune in my life to look too old for my age when I was still quite young; and then also to look too young for the age I am now. So yes, I have looked like I was 20-35 for the last 30+ years...

there's no crime in 2 people the same age fucking it's when their 18 and she's 13

That would be incorrect.  In the US, the lowest age of consent is 14 (Hawaii, Idaho and South Carolina).  If a person wereto engage in any sexual contact with a person not yet of the age of consent when you are over the age of consent, they could be charged with any number of crimes depending on the ages involved and the jurisdiction.  Even when both parties are under the age of consent, there are still charges that could be brought against the participants. .

Agreed. There is a distinction. Although I didn't type it I had underage girl and older man in mind. The aim of an age limit is to protect children. If both boy and girl are under the age limit then you can't single out one and not the other as being either not deserving of protection or having the maturity to be predatory.

Long may it contine, CG. With luck you'll still look the same at 80 and you'll be hooked up with caitlyn surrounded by your special chandeliers.

Not sure how the law works, but with pedophilia at its current popularity (and rightfully so) I doubt you will find many people who will argue your point to defend the guys.

Now, my question is, this 19 year old pretends to be 15, but to get on the adult site, she has to claim to be 18.  Now, I would assume that this 19 year old, much like in pornos, is actually 27.  So what age applies?

Yours,

benji

Benji solved it perfectly.
