People kill themselves every day... it sucks absolutely and, we have no rationale for that...

So, singling out "soldiers in Iraq" as a significant differentiation from suicides elsewhere has no real meaning unless it is greater than that of "soldiers elsewhere" and/or the general population - and -is used as reactionary sensationalism...

Using the incidence of suicides for our soldiers as something 'more than they are' is something I would abhor as it would demean them.

I looked it up when I read your posting - and, only found reference to the unusual quantity that occurred in 2003(which is why I asked)

But we are talking about Soilders only,

But -
and, I repeat myself
- it is not 'more tragic' than any other suicides or significant

(as some people would have us believe they are killing themselves over their deployment in Iraq)

if there is not a greater incidence than of the military's statistics and/or the general population's statistics for suicides.

The fact is -
the military has less incidence of suicide than the general population for the same demographics (age, income, race, creed, gender etc) .

And, apparently (from what I am finding)
even the surge in suicides in 2003 did not place the incidence of suicide in the military as high as the general population lf the US - simply higher than other similar military personnel - AND - it dropped to a "normal level" the following year....

So -

the answer is "no"
there is not a high rate of suicide currently in Iraq among US Armed services.

I believe he should have done it the legal way. If he had done it the legal way though, there is no guarantee that they wouldn't have sent him out anyways. I have a friend who's been to Iraq. He says he'll die before he goes back. He came back a completely different person. He's not the same man that left here. And I don't think he ever will be again. Why don't some of these pompous airbags in office take a little tour of duty of their own over there. Let's see how they like it. Better yet, let's send their friends and family. Let's see how much they approve of the war then.
