Can anyone explain punctuation in conjunction with parentheses to me? Yours, benji When you use parentheses (like this) it's proper to use a space just as you would put a space between any other words or phrases. Periods, question marks and exclamation points are not used within parentheses when the thought is fragmented and incomplete whether or not it relates to the topic of the sentence. Incorrect: I went to the store with Albert yesterday (you know him from work!) and we bought a loaf of bread. Correct: I went to the store with Albert yesterday (you know him from work) and we bought a loaf of bread. When you have a complete thought you should use punctuation as normal. Correct: I went to the store with Albert yesterday to buy a loaf of bread. (Did you know the store lowered the price of bread?) We purchased rye bread then went home and made sandwiches. Hope that helps. ::grins:: Celeste
