RiotGirl -> Branding (10/5/2006 12:34:35 PM)

I've always been curious about branding, prolly cos i wouldnt mind.  Just curious as to how much it hurts?  In comparison to something would be helpful?  Even though we all find different things painful.  Whats it like?

i've heard of ppl passing out?  Anyone thats been branded - were you in bondage, did you use self control, how was it done?  How did you manage to cope through it?  Who does it?

As much as i would love to have it done, preferably not restrained and using self control - i  worry about how i'll handle it.  How one reacts as the heat starts to burn into the skin.  I cant even imagine a reaction...

and in order to cope with things better one must first understand....

any takers who want to share?

When my ex' owners sub was branded with a violet wand, she said it hurt immensly, but she didn't pass out.  She's also the heaviest masochist I've ever known.  And she was held down, for everyone's safety.

Sensual's thread about her branding might be the best place to start:

Kirei -> RE: Branding (10/5/2006 1:06:04 PM)

The trick to branding is making sure the iron is hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns instantly.  This then kills the nerve endings and makes pain less.  Anything under the 3rd degree mark will hurt like hell for a long time afterwards.
  Personally I know this by an industrial accident with a big oven.  It also depends on the part of the body you brand as well, and how many nerve endings are there.  There is a lot to take into account other than just how it is done.  So be careful.

I had the fleshy part of my forearms branded...each has a series of dots (braille). 39 dots on the left, 49 on the right. Each dot was done twice. I stayed very present and, if I felt the need to react, it was a sharp intack of breathe or a grunt. I prepared myself spiritually and mentally beforehand by meditation and ritual. I wasn't held down.

I thought it hurt more than the tat on my upper arm, about the same as the tats on my upper back and less than the tat on my lower back/spine. It hurt more than having blood drawn or an IV inserted, but probably because it lasted for a longer amount of time. It hurt less than recovering from abdominal surgery, probably because it lasted for a shorter amount of time.

In the end, I think it's a lot like tats...how much it hurts is related to where you have it done; fleshy will hurt less than bone. The dots are my wrists hurt a lot more than those up higher on my arm. It also relates to how much is branded in a single pass; dots hurt less than strikes. My arms burned for several hours and they were sore for several days.

Be prepared...if someone tells you it doesn't hurt the second pass, they LIE. It still hurts.

Here's my page documenting the event.

The pain is bad but not that bad, but what really sucks is when you wear the brand after the relationship has long since been dead...*sigh* ,...ah well right of passage i suppose.

play safe
