Well, I'm off to my first meeting tonight, my sister asked me to go with her and I said I would...Has anyone else had success with weight watchers?

Never been, but Consumer Reports has consistently stated that any program that stresses calorie counting, fat gram counting, and aerobic exercise will tend toward success. But you can do that on your own without weight watchers. WW provides a support group that encourages the desired behavior is all.

I need all the support I can get, the last two years have been hell on me.  And being an emotional eater, doesnt help.

My take: Emotional eating, that's your biggest problem righ there.

Read this:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=385936

There was some other good stuff in that thread on this approx. subject, the rest was moronic.

I've had a great deal of success with weight watchers...I take their list of everything I'm not supposed to eat, I eat those things, I maintain my weight (plus a little)...Success!

It's funny that you ask that because...of ALL the questions you could have asked me....that is the ONLY question I actually don't know the answer to!

It's okay...go ahead...ask me another...

Why do "some" people think they know the answer to everything?

Hi there cuddleheart,

I joined Weight Watchers April 1st, 2006, and to date have lost 52lbs.  This is mainly by making delibrate food choices about portion control and options.  For instance, I used to be a Coke addict (the pop kind, you sickos), and I gave up pop entirely, and just drink water and milk now.  I thought that would be alot harder than it was actually.  I also gave up any restaurant that has a drive thru.  My 'fast food' now consists of Subway, Quiznos, Extreme Pita and Sushi.  Finally, I decided to get off my ass and get some regular activity in my day to day life, and currently walk an average of 20kms a week, plus go to water aerobics twice a week.  Some weeks are more challenging than others.  I wouldnt call myself an emotional eater, but I would call myself a boredom eater.  If I'm home alone, and just milling around, I want to snack.  So now I've gotten into the habit that when that happens, more often than naught I'll go for a walk... or call a friend to chat on the phone.

I also go to the meetings every week, and stay for the entire thing.  My group is great, and my leader is great too... motivation, support, empathy and friendship all in 1 stop shopping if you allow it.  I wish you the best of luck with your journey.  For me, its not about losing weight to be pretty, or have a model figure... I think I'm already pretty... and I'll never have a model figure :)  It's about getting healthy, being able to have more energy, and experience life more, and do more things with my son and friends and family.  So far its been all good.  I've still got a ways to go, but I'm enjoying the path I've set to get there, and have been fortunate enough to have many friends and family members supporting me without pressure or judgement... they love me no matter how fat or thin I am.

"I am in shape... round's a shape!"

Toria

Cuddles, I have been on Weight Watcher's since last March, and have lost 50 pounds, and am down 3 full sizes. I love the points program - knowing that if I really need to, I can eat anything I want seems to help my psychology. Go to the meetings, they really help. And best of luck to you.

I've heard good things about WW, Cuddles.  Having group support is very important.  My suggestion would be to find a form of exercise that you actually enjoy doing rather than something you hate and will subconsciously try to get out of.  I HATE jogging, weightlifting and calisthenics, but I'll split wood, play raquetball or take a long bike ride just because I enjoy it.  Burn enough calories and you can eat whatever you want.
