Defying Congress, Bush seeks to release only an edited version of the Homeland Security Report.  What do Y/you suppose he wants to delete?

here is an interesting passage of that link

"The Homeland Security Department has been setting up watch lists to determine who gets on planes, who gets government jobs, who gets employed," said Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
He said the Homeland Security Department has the most significant impact on citizens' privacy of any agency in the federal government.
Homeland Security agencies check airline passengers' names against terrorist watch lists and detain them if there's a match. They make sure transportation workers' backgrounds are investigated. They are working on several kinds of biometric ID cards that millions of people would have to carry.

Scary

The people he has been harassing?

My Daddy works in the Harbor and they have been mulling how to do the security for those working there... the harbor is a big time terrorist target... biometric security... maybe chip them.... creepy

This is just me, and I am probably wrong, but I refuse to go to the vet and get
a RFID chip implanted.

RFID my wife, fine, RFID my dog, sure, RFID my gun, maybe, RFID me, never.

What cracks me up is they want to put biometric scans for all people entering the harbor.

So they want to put a high tech monitoring device at an outside gate around moist and salty air subject to the elements and used by longshoremen, and hope it keeps working.  R-i-i-i-ght.

They already do something like this for truckers.

What ends up happening is the system breaks down 5-7 days a week, and the port does what is known as "roll the gates" which means anybody gets let in so the cargo can move.

On the down side, they want to deny access to anybody with a felony on their rap sheet.  So we have somebody that did something they are not proud of having done 25 years ago.  They did their time.  They got out.  They got a job in the union which they did diligently for 20 years with no infractions or brushes with the law.
Homeland Security wants to deny him or her access to their job.  Seems like a pretty substantial violation of this person's civil rights.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

i feel Yr pain, Sinergy.  i have absolutely no faith whatsoever in Bush and do not want the truth about what Homeland Security is doing concealed from me, or A/anyone else.  i hope Congress forces him to release an unedited Report.

The issue of what Bush and the administration 'are' and 'are not' doing aside -

This security installation is easily accomplished and is dependable in all weather. It has been done in areas that exhibit every type of weather and climate -and- even caustic/acidic-corrosive environmental areas....

It can be made redundant and effective - it is not a hinderance on the "gates" - this is a misnomer - and, is or can be independant of all other devices requiring monitoring 24/7 for incidence and violation.

The one faulted issue with it is, that - it monotors only authorized personnel - anyone capable of sneaking in is not subject to the monitoring this provides.

It is (However) one more 'link in the security fence' and should not be ignored or scoffed at....

People are demanding more security at sensitive installations - and, then i seems they immediately state "will not allow it to occur because <insert some freedom they believe it will infringe upon>"....

Needless to say, there shall be a balance struck with people's demands for more security and people's demands that they not be hindered in their day-to-day lives... but - we cannot have it both ways in all instances... and, at locations such as a pier/docking area, this is one means of significantly cutting down (not only on potential terrorists, but) theft - which is rampant and raises the cost of goods imported by app. 8.5%/annum.

Just a few thoughts.
