Clark: Hanging Saddam would cause chaos

By WILLIAM C. MANN, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 1 minute ago

Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, a member of Saddam Hussein's defense team, predicted on Thursday that a bloodbath would follow should an Iraqi court trying the former president have him executed.
At a news conference, Clark said he feared that should Saddam and the others be hanged, "catastrophic violence" would follow that would lead to "the end of civilization as we know it in the birthplace of civilization, Mesopotamia. Total, unmitigated chaos."

I can think of two or three people who hold high office in the USA that should be hung right next to him.

They wont execute him, they will just put him away til his death, so we can pay for all of his expenses.

It wouldn't suprise me if they executed him.

Think of all the SECRETS he knows about the Bush crime family and all of their dirty dealings with him.

He just might spill the beans...can't have that.

Not to mention Rumsfeld.

This may be true, but the fact that Ramsey Clark says it makes it less likely I'll believe it, not more likely. He makes a point of defending the most horrible people, not representing them because he believes everyone deserves representation, but actually siding with them. He has said that history would prove Milosevic and Karadzic heroic. He has been counsel to Nazis, Charles Taylor, and Elizaphan Ntakirutimana, among others. If someone perpetrates a genocide, rest assured Mr. Clark will find his way onto the defense team.

Well, he's not going to be saved by the insurgents because they've teamed up with Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda doesn't want Saddam around for two reasons: 1. He's a secular leader who never once put up with the religious bullshit, because he knew it would tear the country apart (like its doing now **SHOCK**). 2. If Saddam dies, he becomes a martyr for their cause, a rallying post to sign up more members (anyone who liked him and those who didn't like him - they don't care, they'll feed any amount of bullshit to any warm body they can strap a bomb to), and an excuse to blow more shit up and scare anyone else into joining up with them.

Also Bush wants Saddam dead. Not for any of the bullshit reasons he gaave before the war, but when Saddam dies, it'll be the only validation point Bush or any other conservative will ever have for excusing this fucked up war. A monster has died, ergo we are heroes by default - I don't think so.

Personally, if we want Iraq to be restabilized, I think we should give Saddam a role in reshaping it in exchange for well isolated, well protected and well furnished exile. A small price to pay for peace and far cheaper than what we are paying now.

Its a dangerous precedent for the neocon administration, to execute someone for war crimes and genocidal acts.

Saddam isnt that dangerous alive; he's impotent. Dead he is dangerous, as a very potent symbolic figure.

Yep. This won't be seen as a verdict of an Iraqi court but as a verdict of American puppets.

Hell, if we are going to execute war criminals when are we going to execute Bush and Blair?

Why would there be an violent riot from the nations of peace and loving Islam for putting a tyrant to death? Saddams unmentionables are punishable by death according to the Quran. Did I miss something or does the Middle East no longer want to practice Islam, the religion of peace and harmony?

The whole purpose of a monotheism is to be used as a political, economic and psychological tool by political leaders as a "cure-all" excuse their most abusive interactions.

Christians, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants. All different shades of the same color. My one true god is on my one true side and not on yours, ergo anything I do to you is excused because my god knows I'm right and ergo, you are wrong by default.

Absolutely. I'd cut some kind of a deal with him and put him back in charge immediately. Destroying his regime has /will end up hurting this country for the next twenty years {If it survives}

Besides..... I don't believe in capital punishment.
