So did any one see last night's Grey's Anatomy with the girl who had a genetic thing where she couldnt feel pain? I wonder if thats whats up with some of our pain sluts/masochists? Just food for thought....

Not at all.  Masochists and pain sluts feel pain very intensly- they just process the signals differently from non-masochists.

Those poor people who lack pain reception at all have to live very dangerous lives in everyday circumstances.

I agree with Lucky.  There was a story on Discovery about children born this way who would break limbs and not say anything because it never hurt from the beginning.

Doubtful.  There's a difference between processing pain to where it is pleasurable and not feeling it at all.  Our masochists would be sorely disappointed methinks if their yummy pain went away ;)

I've heard of this before, and it's indeed dangerous and sounds like a bad way to live to me...
I would rather be deaf, dumb or blind (maybe even all 3 put together) than not being able to feel...

I have a high pain tolerance and I am a masochist. I enjoy sensation play also, but I love it when it hurts. Some parts of my body are less sensitive than the average and can take a lot of "abuse"....

ooo I agree that it's two different things. My mother was not pain free, but she had a very high tolerance to pain. Labor and childbirth to her was nothing more and a bit of an upset stomach and a strong feeling to use the restroom. I remember other instances where if something hurt her, she would check it out at the hospital, because if she were feeling some sort of pain, it had to be pretty bad. She was pretty careful and hospital visit were very rare. I also saw where she fell, cracked her head open and kept saying it was fine, but she couldn't see it. After alot of convincing, went to the hospital and received 21 stitches. I'm certainly glad she understood people have different levels of pain and I'm glad she didn't base my pain level on her own. Yikes!!!!
I don't think she would have made a good candidate as a pain slut, in fact, thinking about it is more than weird and makes me laugh. LOL

Umm NO. Its a totally different thing. The disease they were talking about it is genetic and is very serious. When I worked peds,  children would literally poke their eyeballs out because they have no sensation to pain at all. Alot have missing limbs and such before reaching adulthood. Grey's Anatomy is a fictional show about doctors and such. These shows are just for entertainment. They miss the boat alot when it comes to portraying things how they really are in the medical field.  Btw the disease is called congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis or CIPA.
