Status: offline 		My husband is a Dom, I'm a switch. We've always enjoyed shopping for fetish clothing and accessories for me, but he has just now expressed an interest in obtaining some for himself.

All we've managed to find out there for male bdsm garb all gives off that "I'm very gay" vibe, and since he isn't and neither of us gets off on a fantasy of him being gay -- the look just doesn't do it for us.

What I'm talking about is the "Leather Daddy" look or the the chest/body harnesses (which while they make me salivate, true enough, on the built models they always show wearing them, my guy is fairly stocky and has a belly).

So -- if you wear or have seen Dom fetish garb that doesn't fall into either of the two categories above, and would look ok on a bigger guy -- what is it and where could we buy it?

I suggest starting with a leather apron. IE try looking at weilding supplies. Presentation wise, it hits the archetype of the blacksmith or even dungeon master. you may have to use dye to get the color you want (gee, black?). There is a nice range of accessories too, that add a certain level of expressionlessness which can be psychologicaly interesting. Gloves, masks, etc.

My husband found he liked the pirate look. He first got this type of clothing for a son's pirate themed wedding which took place at the beach. He was also a large man. The first shirt he got was done in linen with big sleeves and a laced up front. Depending on how tight it was laced, some chest could show. The shirt fits loose so it hides a belly. There are some nice, folded top leather boots that can also go with this type of look. One of the things he really liked about this is that he could still wear his favorite comfortable jeans. I loved to dress as a wench to match his pirate look.

The shirt and the boots can be found on many web sites....just do a search for period clothing/costumes.

I've always wanted to try uniforms. While this might not sound P.C. I like the old german uniforms. I've tried to find pants similar to those (with the puffs at the tops of the boots). I thought they were the same as horse riding pants. However they are not. Does anyone know what they are called, and additionally where I could get some (without having to spend a fortune). Heck, the whole uniform (minus the german insiginas) would be cool.

Status: offline 		Using uniforms should be one of the easier ways to go. There are LOTS of people who do reenactment of various wars and all sides. So a net search for suppliers of reenactment accecories will do it. Just pick the country and look desired and it should be simple enough to locate.

A deep navy blue pinstripe custom fit with some insanly shiny shoes. one of those shirts where the collar is white but the shirt isn't.

Hella.

But we prefer "Agent Smith" chic. Black suit, black shirt, black tie, black glasses.

Or charcoal pinstripe suit, with a grey felt fedora. Surprisingly powerful.

Try it with Jeans, and just a latex shirt and gloves. Plain simple, black and still kink.

Status: offline 		I'd suggest a biker vest, not a bar vest with a comfortable cotton or linen shirt, not a dress shirt underneath. A fedora, one that goes well with the vest. Lastly, comfortable blue jeans, not black with comfy boots or work boots. Dont forget the leather belt, not only does it keep the pants up where they should be, but can make anywhere a scene.

This goes well in the dungeon and out in public, just may have to take off the vest if you have patches and pins on it.

And if he smokes a good case for the tobacco product, whether it's a tubecase for cigars or regular smokes.

People note the big things and really the little things.

I'm a large man too (6'4"+ and about 280/290). I've not found anything that I like fetish wise that is made in my size. I love leather accessories but don't like the feel of leather on my bear skin when worn. So usually if I'm wearing clothes I'm dressed casually (built for comfort - might as well be comfortable). A benefit of this is that I don't have to worry about ripping/damaging/staiing any clothes while playing, a second benefit is that I have a ful range of motion.

Sometimes during role play (ie: daddy, teacher, etc), or sometimes jsut for the hell of it, I'll wear a suit & tie or even one of my Tuxes. It makes a fantastic presence but it often limits my range of motion.

I have thought about purchasing a Cop's uniform but a friend of mine (who dabbled in BDSM) had one in his car along with handcuffs in Los Angeles and was busted for it after a traffic stop. No charges ever came about but they held him over night and threatened to pursue charges of impersonating a police officer.

Status: offline 		Kilt, broadsword, baldric, and chainmail vest. Kinda pricey, but definately breaks the mold. Chainmail is one of the few things that can make just about any guy look butch without seeming gay or insecure. It takes balls to wear something that outlandish, even here in the bay area.

Status: offline 		The style riding pant you refer to is jodphur. It's difficult to find them ready made, but if you go to a tack store and peruse the bulletin board for someone who makes custom riding clothes you may have some luck. There are also patterns available. Also try Miller's. Don't know if they have an online store or not or even if they are still under that name. Been some time since I have done any shopping for riding apparel.

The modern style riding pants are called breeches and fit tight everywhere and stop at the lower calf. Jods should only be tight from the knee down to facilitate getting the riding boot on.

I think a breastplate over a gambeson, with the black fighting belt and trews would be a better look for a master than a kilt.. and I like kilts...

Toga- Gets that whole Calligula vibe into your scenes
Robes- Something dark, with a hood perhaps. Think Evil monk, priest, etc
Furs- Think "Caveman" could be fun...
Mideval garb- Silks, poet shits, cloaks, maille, crown, blades, (yum) kilts
Egyptian Pharoh stuff- silks, lots of gold material, loincloth

Bottom line...whatever you are comfortable in. If He has a leather fetish, then wear leather. Who cares what it looks like to other people, as long as he enjoys it.

Status: offline 		Actually, there is a company out here in sf (whose name escapes me or I would provide a link) that produces some very nice utility kilts that look good on a heavier gentleman and are fairly butch.

Chainmail can be easy to make but it is a labor-intensive process, like knitting that gives you callouses. On the plus side, making your own does mean you can get exactly what you're after, if you're willing to invest enough time. If you have the cash to plunk down, it is possible to find folks in the sca and renfaire circuit who do custom orders.

There is of course one primary problem with your core conundrum. Gay men have pretty much cornered the market on masculine sexuality. 90% of the iconographic "look"s for guys, especially dominant guys, have also become iconic for being homosexual. Wear what you wear, wear it well, and take any cruising as the compliment it really is.

I dunno if I'd say mail is -easy- especially if you're going for rivited mail :) Though if you buy the pre-made rings it's just time consuming.

I have to agree about the lack of kilt, though I'd prefer chausses and mail. Not a big fan of breastplates.

Uh...is my geek showing yet? (it's funny, I was trying to feel out the board for SCA-associates in the collar color post, but no one bit :) )
