Status: offline 		This will probably only intrigue those who follow business...but...as some know, Howard Schultz is the Pres. of Starbucks.

He's ridden (sp?/grammar correction required) an astounding tsunami of success.  (For those that don't know...he bought a singularly non interesting coffee house (among other things coffee related) in the VERY early 80's..he took some incredible risk, rode more than several years of fallow...and over the next 5 years, he's looking at (realistically) building his empire to 40,000 units, while others that follow have opened as many as 50. 

I can't take anything away from the guy...he's done some astounding things...but I have a question (and be aware...every dollar you spend on cofee, 80 cents comes back to Seattle, my town)?

Why do any of you spend 4 bucks for a cup of coffee?

I only do as an occasional treat, or when I am too disorganized to wrangle making coffee at home.

Status: offline 		I have bought there 3 times.   Always to bribe the accounts clerk into speeding up something that I wanted to get done quickly   LOL   I did try their coffee once (my son bought that one).   I make a much better cup at home and for much less.

Status: offline 		I dont.  If I have coffee there, it is a Venti Iced Coffee, and thats 2.75.  The only froofroo drinks I get there are the result of bribary. In my workplace, someone bearing Starbucks (or twinkies) wants something.

We don't, we buy the Starbucks beans and grind them at home....much more economical. I like the espresso roast myself.

Status: offline 		I love Starbucks.. and as a corporation they go the extra mile to things right.. environmentally, charitable giving, etc. Quality products sold in the stores as well.
What could be better that a Starbucks in a Barnes and Noble? *
Great coffee, lots and lots of books.. yum!
And, I do buy the beans and make mine at home mostly.. no drive through coffee here.. plenty of drive through daiquiri stands.. but no Starbucks within 20 min..:(

Status: offline 		I pay four bucks fairly regularly, although not just to Starbucks. I pay for the coffee, with required caramel in it. Then I sit in a comfy chair and organize all of my collective stuff. (Payroll, A/R, A/P, Sales, labor reports...and for those in the industry RevPar, ADR, LOS).
 
It's a way to work away from work without working at home. Plus, I can't remember the last person that admitted it...but I like the coffee.

They have the best coffee going.

Status: offline 		I have had coffee at Starbucks maybe twice, only once did I pay.  I wasn't all that impressed, although I do love the aroma of coffee and ocassionally a good cup of hot coffee. 

Now I am going through a major phase of iced coffee, I used to get my "fix" via the neighborhood Dunkin Donuts.  I think they (DD) have the best coffee. 

I now make my own (iced coffee) at home, yummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Count me out. I buy whole bean organic decaf coffee at Trader Joe's and make my own coffee at home or my office with filtered water. No sugar or cream.

I don't buy franchise-made coffee more than 5-6 times a year... if that.

Status: offline 		Not coffee Venti Double Chocolate Chip Frapaccino is the only way i spend my money.  It is expensive but it is or was a treat for myself.  I also like that their employees are expected to work volunteer hours and that our local store supports a non for profit charity i have volunteered for.   They provide pastries and coffee for our meetings and for other times.  They have been quite generous.

Status: offline 		I prefer Peets.  I buy their beans and grind them at home.  On the occasion I want a latte, I go to Peets.  They put Starbucks to shame, in my opinion.  Talk about smooth and rich...yum.

Status: offline 		the typical american coffee is of poor quality.

some countries marvel over a soothing cup of tea. teh usa started off on tea- but then went the way of coffee. we have been conditioned to accept medicre beans.

so when a decent brew happens- we shell out teh bucks.

being that i have several cubic feet of obsolete teck gadgets, i cant say a latte is a total waste.

i do get a chuckle over soda pop consumers tho. spending $$ on their beverage- which in some cases will remove rust from chrome.  i drink 1 gallon of water a day.  cost $0.30.

suppose you have $10 a week for fun money. to spend any way you choose. a latte could be good, but there are other joys that can be good as well.

the thing that irked me- is the cook at a coffee house had no clue how to offer a low calorie latte,. so i experiment on my own at home. with so many fat people=- i find it incredulous that i am the only requester of low cal brew....

Status: offline 		I live in Turkey and there are Starbucks everywhere (they are literally building one as we speak on my corner).  I dont go very often, but alot of the people I work with think of it as a status thing.  They go there to be seen.

Not my idea of the best way to spend money but it works for them.

I'm a Dunkin Donuts groupie.  I drive out of my way for a Dunkin.
I buy their ground coffee to make at home, too.
Large French Vanilla, light and sweet.  Mmmmmm
