I just finished watching Memoirs of a Geisha, again.  It really is a beautiful movie as long as you can view something without imposing reality on it.

When I think of training I think of learning how to bellydance (done), Of learning how to cook favorite meals (done), and of practicing the grace and artfulness of a geisha.  I love everything about the look.

I know a person just cannot go out and become a geisha.  But has anyone ever heard of training that was somewhat similar?

Thanks,
Kyst

There are people who play at being a geisha, but the real training is a life-long practice that involves your entire life.  The true training is secretive, so no one outside of the life is an expert.

You can still be trained as a Geisha.  I know there are at least two small private schools in Japan that does it.  I don't believe there is one in the states.

As I understood it, it generally is not open to non asian people.  There has been an exception or two of course.
I realise that it is a lifetime of learning.  But I wouldn't mind learning something that has the same feel.

You can generally take a lot elements included in geisha training separately. Japanese dance, shamisen lessons, tea ceremony lesson, flower arrangement etc are taught as classes for the general public. . .you just have to ferret out the places that do.

Most Americans would be against it considering how much education it requires about "adult relationships and dynamics" which must begin training as what we would consider a ridiculously young age.

But really, learn about the art of grace and allow grace to flow from all that you do with an ember of passion.

In the West the term which is usually used for the same role is 'courtesan.' Of course, it's also sometimes used for lesser level persons, but it's still the correct word, and one can find many examples of courtesans in the west who were the equal of any geisha. It might help you in your searches to learn more about this sort of person.
