The real question to ask is not if the people here are real, but is the site real or just an illusion..

Iskander...

Some are real, some aren't. It's as simple as that I'm afraid. Happy hunting. Btw, if you are real you will stick at it, if you stick at it, eventually you will meet others who have stuck at it to, because THEY are real too.

LaTigresse -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/10/2006 6:46:47 AM)

I will say that I have yet to have the pleasure of actually meeting anyone from this site. Have spoke to a few on the phone though I don't think they use the message boards. I know there are a few guys from my area on CM that would love to meet but I don't really see any purpose for it. There isn't anything about them that interests me and I have no reason to meet them. There are however, quite a few that post in the forum boards I would just love to meet!

zumala -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/10/2006 6:54:54 AM)

Y'know what I've always wondered?  Why do people come to the boards to complain about 'non-real' people they've met (how do you meet someone that's not real??) on the other side?  Obviously there are real people HERE, since we come on and chatter at each other all the time.  Of course, if they think no one is real, then perhaps they just enjoy talking to themselves?  I know I do sometimes.  [;)]

*yawn*  I need more coffee.  My very real body needs a higher caffeine content in its blood.

You so did not just "whatever" me.
And Im sorry we only serve people with for-real dicks in here.
You'll have to go to Dunkin Donuts.

I know I probably shouldn't say this but...if Starbucks is for those with for-real dicks, then wouldn't Dunkin Donuts be Holes for Holes?

emek -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/10/2006 7:58:08 AM)

Well,
Just because I could never relie on the net for dates, especialy on this bdsm note. What Ive done was starting producing house and club partys in my area in northern Israel. I did get some dates out of doing that and got a good name for my self.
if you cant do that just go to such party or munch and meet ppl that way.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/10/2006 10:51:45 PM)

Oh, stop being so rational.  People need a reason to complain now, don't they?  If they didn't complain about all the non-real people they haven't met, they'd be complaining about something else, like why Collarme doesn't have a list of big bad doms who prey on innocent subs or why the moderators pick on certain people or why there are dangerous perverts out there who refuse to accept SSC.

LOL, did you just tell me to stop being so rational, LAM?  There's a whole other thread buried in there someplace.  [;)]  There are people that will tell you that women aren't rational creatures.

I got a good laugh out of that.  Thanks!

Bearlee -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/11/2006 8:39:27 AM)

Personally, I don’t think the question should have been “Are people real…?” but rather “Are they honest?”

Okay, okay; I know real people screw around sometimes…but really, what IS the point of dragging something out with a complete stranger you have no intention of seeing in person?

I cannot think anything more boring or less stimulating than spending two weeks exchanging mail and IM with someone you have no intention of meeting.  What IS the draw for seemingly intelligent men to lead a person on with gentle banter which doesn’t even include sex or D/s?  (I could understand THAT)  I mean; stupid lie after lie after lie…about his life, his work, his interests.  I don’t get it!  It cracks me up; “I can hardly wait to meet you, Friday” followed with a couple suddenly out-of-pocket days followed by a sudden disappearance and removal of profile or some inane note saying “I have determined we don't have a future together. Thanks for the nice time...Goodby,  Charley”

<shakes head>  Are they just dreaming?  Perhaps this is the behavior of guys who think they ‘Want-To-Be’ in the lifestyle, but really don’t know what it’s about and are afraid to actually get their feet wet?  Lordy, I dunno; I really wouldn’t mind meeting someone who was new; who cares?  But, why fake it?  Geeze…it just makes no sense to me!

No wonder people wonder if there are REAL people here…

Okay…yes, yes; it just happened to me AGAIN!  Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  Yes, I know this is online and there are idiots; No, I do not limit myself to online only; Yes, I know I just need to be patient…

Still…  sheeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

MissyRane -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/11/2006 8:45:23 AM)

but then when wonders are wonders and wonders wonder about wonders then wonders must wonder about real when real is about wonder and wonder comes when real is real but if real is real then wonder is wonder so what if wonder is real and real is wonder then we must wonder what's real!

Rover -> RE: Are people real on this site (10/11/2006 9:12:39 AM)

It would be incorrect (in my opinion) to narrow the issue to this community, or lifestyle communities in general.  The problem is inherent to the internet itself, and equally prevalent in the gardening community (no WAY she's been raising blue/pink daisies since 1968) as it is "here" (which is not really a place or destination, just a mode of communication).

Lots of people lead ordinary lives, but want to feel extraordinary.  Lots of people feel unfulfilled that want to feel fulfilled.  Lots of people feel they could be, or should be, something different/better/more than they really are.  And since all things are "possible" on the internet, they simply "become" (or portray themselves) what they think/want/wish to be.  It's interactive fantasy fulfillment, and probably more uncommon that there are people portraying themselves genuinely and accurately.

That's obviously a generalization that is (I beleive) accurate on the macro level, and false on the micro level (ie: it doesn't hold true for any particular individual).  Theoretically, one could assume (and debate the accuracy of that assumption) that those engaged in these boards are more likely to be genuine, as it would be less gratifying for those engaged in interactive fantasy fulfillment and more likely that they would be "exposed" (down you exhibitionists and voyeurs).

There is something to be said for being active in your local lifestyle community, and able to provide references from recognized organizations (rather than from unverifiable strangers), and for asking the same from those you chat with.  Saves a lot of time and trouble.

John
