I'm curious, LA, what you mean by food play being edgy.  Can you give some  examples of edgy foodplay?  Also, am I correct in assuming that when you say "fluids," you mean watersports, pissing on a submissive?

For myself, I would consider anything that takes me to another level and beyond to be edgy; sort of like finding the boundary and pushing past.

In my oppinion edge play is what ever form of play takes a person the the edge of there comfort level. If they have mental issues with restrants then that would be edge play for that preson because it pushes them.
 
It's a very subjective thing... what is edge play to you might not be edge play to others....

For me, edge play is any scene where you either trust or fear your Dom.

funny- all of these replies refer more to my opinion of pushing boundaries.  Is edge play just expanding of boundaries?
 
To ME edge play is taking a submissive to the edge of orgasm, then stopping.

For me, what you are describing as food play is messy, but not edgy.  Anything with blood IS edgy.  Personally, I view watersports as pretty routine with my submissive, but it has been edgy with other submissives who are new to it.  But saliva, semen and vaginal fluid are NOT edgy, they are always present!!  Our scenes are always sexual, so there is always saliva, semen and/or cunt juice splashing around.  *grin*

Basically, I view edge play as play that is dangerous, or causes fear or trepidation.  Some examples of what I consider edge play are needles, cutting, breath play and fire play. 

YMMV.

Edgeplay to me is anything that could cause permanent damage to mind or body; something that really pushes me or pushes against of my boundaries. It doesn't matter so much the activity, as what it does to me.

i think edge play is important, pushing yourself, challenging yourself, but it's certainly something to be careful with, and not dive right into.

Personally, I have always considered edgeplay to be pushing the boundaries on any activity that scares the sub your pushing it with. I always took it as playing with the edges of the boy or girl's abilities and seeing if they can be expanded.
