I'd like to invite everyone to share the path your power orientation has taken since your earliest kinky fantasies. Are you a dominant who once considered yourself strictly submissive? Vice versa? Are you a dom/sub/switch whose orientation has never shifted at all? I'd also be interested to hear what you think caused your desire to evolve.

I've got to get to bed, but I'll post later and tell about my own progression so far.

The lifestyle explained who and what I was, and allowed me to make better (more informed and conscious decisions) about a compatible partner.  It was not a "path" to anything beyond information which admittedly does engender greater understanding, but did not precipitate some sort of metamorphasis or evolution.

I'm fond of saying that the lifestyle does not descend upon us like the Holy Spirit, "making" us into anything that we are not.

Ive always been Dominant, even before I knew what that meant. My dominant side has become stronger over the years since that first rush of being dominant when I was with a particular girl friend in college.

I've always been a sub, never wavered from that since my earliest fantasies.

I became a masochist around the age of 18 and up. Just a masochist though, some would say bottom too.
I am still a masochist, discovering other sides now
As to what brought me to this point.

Hard to really say but it was and is centered around a very special person.

My fantasies have always been fairly straight down the middle.

My actions have been 99.9% on one side.

I personally don't care about past orientation.  Put someone adequate in front of me, and I'll figure it all out again tomorrow.

I have always had a Dominant edge to my personality. So, when I started, I was a sadistic Dominant. Since then, I've evolved to realize that what we do doesn't necessarily define who we are. I feel a spiritual calling to be a servant Master. I top, I bottom, I serve, I receive service, I Dominate, I submit...these are all physical actions or mental headspaces to me. Still, I am a Master. It's taken a while to get this...I have been greatly confused by my masochistic side. Then, I heard several people speak...they've become my gurus, friends and part of my extended chosen family. Sometimes, it'd difficult to explain in words...I'm working on that.

Your title of the thread struck a chord...i am in the process of reading the book called "The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating" by David M Buss.  Should prove to be an interesting read. *smile Have you heard of it?

No, I haven't, but it sounds like it'd be right up my alley. I'll put it on my list. :)
