I think it would be easy!   You'd simply have to start every instruction or order with "would you please think about" or "please consider doing it this way."

My alpha was a vendor when we met. It helped at times and was difficult at times. We kept things quiet for about a year when my boss (his long time friend) found out. Then it turned into my boss telling me to "call your boyfriend and get us a better price on x". "Call your boss to pay me more for y".
I finally put the two of them in a room together and told them to grow up. Told the boss if he didn't like the price I was getting he could work it out himself or I'd find another vendor. Told the alpha that if he didn't like the pricing he needed to work it out with the checkbook and not bug me. In many ways it was one of my most memorable and successful relationships and also most difficult because of the dance between being dominant in my job and respectful to the alpha...even when he was wrong.

My friends from the local club have that problem.  A promotion of one ended the closeness of the same department but as long as they work for the same company they have a real need to pretend to barely know one another.  No off color jokes no touching and employee obediance only.

It wasnt exactly the same, but I did have a collared sub as my direct supervisor when I worked back in NY.  I was good friends with his owner, and I knew him well before I was given the position that I found myself in.  When I was initially introduced to the group, I thought he was going to spit his coffee across the room when it was announced he would personally supervise me.  His owner and I had quite a laugh over it, since I yes'ed him to death at work, and then he'd serve us both when I was invited over after work. It never did impact our work dynamic, though he was far more respectful of how he spoke to me than most of the otehr supervisors were with their underlings.

We worked for different divisions of the same large corporation so seperation was possible. I think the most humiliating moment of my dating life was his asking HR if it was ok for us to date. Not my dad, my HR director.  They knew before the boss did so it kind of took some of the wind out of the bosses sails when his response to finding out was "I'm gonna tell ...you can't do that". Well actually we can get HR on the speaker and he'll tell you himself, they've known for 6 months.
