DOMBifemTN -> Question about collars... (10/15/2006 4:23:49 PM)

I am fairly new to the BDSM lifestyle and was wondering if someone could share some insight on collars. I understand most of it, the only thing I am wondering about is...should a Domme wear a collar and if so, is there a specific kinda that She should wear. I have seen several pictures where they seem to be wearing collars but I just wanted to find out for sure....
Thanks in advance :)

A collar is generally considered a symbol of the relationship that the domme gives her submissive or slave.  It can also be a useful tool to attach a leash.  A domme does not typically wear a collar as a symbol of the relationship or to be used as a practical tool.  It is generally the submissive or bottom who wears the collar.

However, here's the beauty of this.  You are the domme and no matter what anyone says is right, do whatever it is you want to do that works for you.  You want to wear a collar because it looks cool, go for it.

If a domme wears a collar, it could be because she likes the fashoin statement of it, because she is in fact a sub/slave to a master or mistress, but a domme to others, or any number of other reasons, those just happen to pop into my head.

I don't wear a collar ... my slave does.  She earns it and begs for it.

That's me though ... everyone is different.  You're gonna get 50 million different ways to collar *s*.  Just do what comes to you as natural or effective in your D/s relationship.

Dear DOMBifemTN, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I am rather antique in my mind's eye when it comes to collars.

I don't wear collars and if I wear a necklace I make darn sure it has nothing to suggest it is a dressy collar.

I don't even wear a velvet choker.  With so many people who Switch I don't wish to identify as a Switch, just be identified as the lady holding the switch.

Respectfully submitted with a pinch of wit,
Lady Hugs

Usually when you see a pic with a domina in a collar, it's used as a photo prop by an uneducated/non-scene photographer shooting fetish pics for "look."  I recall in my early dealings with David Jackson of DDI Magazine, he used to make recommendations to the women who would send him photos, telling them to be sure if they were wearing something on their neck that it doesn't have a ring on it because it sends the wrong message.  There are ringless neckpieces, like the Stormy Leather Waterfall Collar (leather with dangling chain) or the Spartacus Mistress Collar, but in my never so humble opinion, even those tend to "look like collars."

This does exclude women who have a switch relationship, who own and are owned by someone else.

Yes I love to browse through the erotic fetish photography and I see a disturbing number of "Mistress" pictures in which the woman is wearing a collar with a ring on it, which I had assumed was for the purpose of attaching a leash, which is why I posted this thinking I was misguided about the rings on the collar. Thanks everyone for clearing things up for me :) I would never wear a collar with rings, but perhaps something more decorative, because I do love the way collars look, especially on my sub.....mmmmm
