AzureLove -> Have you been deceived, too? (1/25/2005 11:55:23 AM)

I am not sure exactly where to post this.
So, if a moderator wishes to place it in the proper area, please do.

A bit over a month ago i was contacted by a female from here on collarme. She was listed as Domme, in Colorado, so I thought it was a joke. I kindly replied and as it turns out, she is from Russia. A very pretty girl of 27, from the pictures I was sent. After conversing for about 10 emails each, she asked me to send her money ($350.00) to get her documents in order so she could visit me.

I have been online for over ten years and involved in BDSM for over nine of that. I know fraud is more rampant than most of us know.
I have always been leery of things like this and asked for more information about her and several other things. Mind you, I had asked other questions in emails and they seemed to be ignored. Questions like, whether she is Domme or sub, what some of her preferences are and so on, since her profile is quite blank.
Near the last, I wrote to her from another email address and I received the same letter of introduction and a request to get to know me better. That really tipped me off that I may be being deceived and taken.
I do not know if it is okay to give out her name here, so, I won't do that until I know better. I just want to give a heads-up to others about this type of fraud.
If a moderator tells me that I can list her name here I will do it so that others will not be taken in as I was.

Thank you and Good day

AL

that is definately a scam.

if she doesnt have 350$ to get her "papers" together to visit you, how is she going to purchase a plane ticket?

lol.

AL

My name is Kwame Nkrumah and I am a Nigerian bank employee who has access to an account with $5,876,987,240.57. As you may have seen on FoxNews (in between the Inagural footage, Johnny Carson tributes and Bill O'Reilley's sanctimonious diatribes against the Red Cross) there is a great possibility of our political stability crumbling and civil war breaking out between Christian capitalists and Muslim fundamentalists. So, if you send me your bank account number and routing number I can wire it to you if you verbally promise to split it with me once I felee this godforsaken petroleum hellhole. I would take it all myself but I fear my boss, the stinking capitalist pig that he is, would have me hanged if I just walked out with it. Please reply to my hotmail account. Act soon and I'll tell ya where Osama BinLaden has been hiding out. :)

yeah they are out there. Lots of scammers :(

I have been decieved far more in person though. I tend to be far wearier online than r/t but I'm learning my lessons :)

Best
Joshua

you know my favorite scam that was sent to me was about a supposive dead relative of mine having millions emailed to me from a supposive lawyer of his. which might i add he must have had a lot of lawyer because I got 27 diff emails from diff peeps claiming to be this supposive dead relatives lawyer. And I didnt even know the supposive dead relative. Anyways The first thing I ask was to see their Bar Information so i can make sure they were real. I never got a reply sadly to say after i asked for the information. Correct me if I am wrong but a real lawyer would be glad to send such information. I dont have a copy of the letter to show anyone anymore because i had to over haul my computer a whiles back but it was really funny. And ironically enough it was the same letter sent to one of my best friends weeks earlier and she was stupid enough to try it and they asked for money to be sent and her bank accounts and what not she never sent the info but that is how idiots out there work anymore.

I'll say Amen to that...
I think online folks get a bad rap... I've met much bigger/more detrimental liars offline, and believe me, it's cost ME Much more than that; $350 is not a huge deal, but perhaps you ought to stop shipping money overseas to folks you've never met.

If you are totally taken with someone, and the time comes to buy her a ticket (after you know EVERYTHING) about her, maybe consider it, but only if it's an amount of money you can afford to live without.

Take care, and go with common sense and your gut feeling next time. M

LdyAuburn -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/25/2005 4:38:20 PM)

Not only is it possible to be 'sucked in' withsomeone you are involved, also someone you just feel sorry for. They can spin a very good story about needing money.

MisSuz,

Oh I have become intimately familiar with them :) Absolutely the best investment one can make when meeting a potential playmate either online or offline - at least without trusted references (and even then)

Not to sound too cynical, but if/when I do find another whom could potentially be "the One" I will also hire the same PI I was forced to hire AFTER the breakup of my last D/s relationship (in which I was engaged, but fortunately not married). Amazing how much damage can be done through deception. Though the three most valuable lessons it taught me ws: A) never get involved out of sheer loneliness, B) take my sweet time with both eyes open and C) invest the $39- $59 for a background check.

I'll save the gory details for when we do get together...best told after a few martoonis and good fellowship :)

best,
Joshua

hehehehe

Assuming this was for the OP.... I've never fallen for the quick scams... and am usually pretty good at reading folks.... but I seem to have a special weakness and affinity for well disguised sociopaths lol I *am* working on that one though - with a little help from my "friends" :)

Best,
Joshua

Especially when He/she (she in my case) use their kids as medium to milk your generosity.... well at least they had a wonderful Christmas this year - unless their goodies were pawned beforehand (a likely possibility).

::sigh::

OK thinks it's time to find another thread, lmao

Paulnz -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/25/2005 5:56:02 PM)

That's nothing, read the following story on how a guy here in NZ got scammed by a woman on the run from the FBI in the USA:-

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/index.cfm?ObjectID=10007187

A whirlwind romance, she moves in, he supports her, then she disappears with his car. Turns out she's on the run. When you see the photo of the two it is obvious she is way out of his league. He should've looked in the mirror and seen what was there, but guys are just born believers or something. What is too good to be tru, usually is.

Darthbetta -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/25/2005 7:47:18 PM)

HI I can deep throat a 14 inch cock... can I be your sub ? I will come there if you can send me travel money as I am a student currently in *********** and I'm broke."

reply: "SURE ! can I give you all the 14 inches in 2 different sessions though ? oh, and can you send yourself C.O.D. though the mail ?"

Hope to see you soon !

cheers,

Darth.

I'm still waiting.....

Hey joshua,
The above statement from me was for the OP.
As for the weakness for well disguised sociopaths, I've suffered from it too, married one, and boy did it cost me more than $350; but I am all done with the savior complex I was suffering from, lol...
Good luck on your path forward. M

AzureLove -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/26/2005 8:33:02 PM)

No, I have not and will not send her money. She has since tried to save face in an email to me. I have not answered yet. She says she loves me and wantd to be my wife. Kind of silly after that few emails in my opinion.

Thank to all who have responded.
AL

P.S. It seems that compared to some of you, I would have gotten off easy with the $350

GreyStorm -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/26/2005 9:15:25 PM)

Guess I am cynical....I would never ever send anyone money. I would never give my bank acount infor, or any private info out on the web. It's too easy to be taken advantage of. Plus if they did turn out to be real...they would probably turn up looking like this.....[image]http://www.itsonlyamovie.co.uk/gifs/ugly%20face%201%20tile.jpg[/image]

with my luck.

DiamondDiva -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (1/29/2005 8:44:34 PM)

I haven't seen the one from the female but I have had my share of the ones from Nigeria. They get on my nerves as well and I just delete them. Actually, I have most of them on Junk mail alert so that I never see them, but every once in a while another comes through. [sigh] why do people feel like everyone is sheer idiots?

Oh by the way Tempation: You are looking very very good.

I am absolutely looking forward to it!

SirSTRYKER -> RE: Have you been deceived, too? (2/10/2005 7:31:15 AM)

being retired Navy, I have seen first hand from various third world countries how men and women will attempt to get married just to get citizenship in the US. Some offer upwards of 5,000 dollars to the sailor just to "marry them" then after a few months divorce them so they can live in the United States. One fellow I know did this several times before the authorities caught up with him. I believe he'll be released from Fort Levenworth Stockcade in a few short more years.....
