My master told me one day after I woke up that I had been growling in my sleep.  No not snoring...actual growling...you know the sound that most animals make when annoyed.  Anyways I didn't know what to say and it kinda bothered me.  Then I remembered that a unmentionable also does the same thing.  So I shrugged it off until a couple days ago when my master awoke to me growling again.  This time however my master woke me up.  So like any person curious about this I searched the internet.  Funny thing...there isn't anything really listed for this behavior at all except in dogs.  Anyways I plan on asking a psychologist about this to see what he thinks about it.  But I wanted to see what people here think of this whole growling in the sleep thing and if anyone else has heard of this.

My teenager does this, and has on occassion woken me up from the next room. The first couple times it shocked me so much that I woke her up to make sure that she was ok.
We did find out that when she does this it is usually in reaction to a specific dream or nightmare that she may be having. For instance, when we were in Texas, she accidently encountered a coyote den? , needless to say it left her with nightmares for quite awhile. One night when I woke her up because of the growling, she told me that she was dreaming about it.
/shrug
Instinctive reaction to being threatened maybe?
We don't worry about it too much anymore, in fact, she finds it amusing and has even gone so far as to tape herself at night just to see what it sounds like lol.

Another area that we discovered was that sometimes we will talk about what kind of animal we would like to be in our next life, and she always chooses a wolf. Maybe she is practicing for that? One never knows.

i had a boyfriend who did that. it was quite scary. but i know i also make all sorts of bizarre noises in my sleep. i wouldn't worry about it too much. in fact, i think it's kinda cool.

LOL when if first started, I had mentioned it to her doctor. He thought it was amusing also; he did say though that since all she does is growl that there did not seem to be any reason to worry about it.

Now, if she was sleepwalking, on all 4's , and growling...then I would worry .

When i was pregnant, i did that.  Hubby said it was so pronounced, that when i did it some months after baby was born, He KNEw i was pregnant.

i guess He moved my blanket, and i growled just like a mother bear.   Did the dip test, and by gawd, i was preggers.    He says He's never heard me do it when not expecting, but i did it every time i was touched or jostled when i was carrying.   So i'm thinking some primal self-protection thing.

W/we had a female partner who growled as she got aroused,  it would ramp up closer she got to the O.   Again, something primal.   It was very sexy to most guys, so another gal in our circle copied it.  That was so stupid, it wasn't hot when she did it.

Oh I know I growl in my sleep also, in addition to moaning. Both of which I am sure make me a delight to share a bedroom with. Fortunately, or unfortunately, it is just furry 4 legged creatures sharing the bed and they make funny sleep noises also. So, we all get along.

Luckily she's not one I'd kick out of bed if she farted...

Lol, Scooter woke both of us up when Jewel tried to take back some of the sheets. He had a death grip on them and snapped at her " Let go of my clutch!" in his meanest voice.

Fucking bikers, go figure.

I have been known to laugh, cry, scream, talk and even walk in My sleep.
There has been a couple times when I wasnt really growling but it wasnt
normal sounding either...I usually wake up to remember the dream I was having.

I'm terrified of flying and dream a lot about people trying to get  Me on a plane...I'm kicking and screaming...poor bishop sound asleep gets a knee in the stomach...and awakes to Me screaming "no,no,not the plane!...When I first wake up its so real feeling and the fact I dream in color makes it more life like.It takes a minute for Me to know where I am sometimes.I hate that.

I'm so jealous. My bedroom is silent all night, 'cause I sleep alone.

You don't get sympathy because you have standards and don't want any loser in your bed - it's called admiration for having standards and sticking to them

Standards!? Standards!?

Look - warm and breathing under own power arent exactly high standards!

You could go to a bar ... excuse me, pub ... and find a really drunk guy to bring home and have your way with - but you don't because you have standards.

Hell, you wouldn't touch me with a 20 foot pole - that too involves standards ;-)

Look - I've had enough of really drunk guys - well, one in particular actually. That said, theyre usually warm and breathing, so they qualify.

Youre right, I wouldnt touch you with a 20ft pole TGD. I think a 2 foot riding crop might be my choice!

Nope...no thierans here.  Got rid of everyone that howls and acts like wolves in their sleep after one thought he was a vampiric dragon and tried to kill me.  Its just a little thing that master tells me and not that its a bad thing...he finds it funny at times since my unmentionable does the same thing.  Maybe it is a primal thing since I keep stealing the blankets...
