ORIGINAL: toservez Oh this thread is got a great chance of getting emotionally charged. I actually agree with the article very much. Most academic research shows that women are paid less not because we have tits but for honest rational reasons. Most who do rant equal pay for equal work do it in such a simple non thought out politically correct rants. There has been several studies that I have read that women in the business world are paid less because of raising children. In general woman are almost always the primary parent in raising the children and in doing so cannot or look for jobs, when they have children, that do not have overtime, work on weekends, traveling and getting transferred to a new city. By nature of the real world these type of jobs pay less and give you less a chance at promotion. In the end my former Master had a great saying. Anybody can point to another person and think they should be paid more then them and somebody is pointing at you thinking the same thing. Wow, I get to disagree with you for a change. There are many working mothers in my office and they are doing the same work, attending the same conferences, doing the same traveling as the men. Since we are a State Institution it is required by law that our salaries be published and I can say, for a fact, that the women (on average) are getting paid less than the men and some of these women are outstanding and heads above most of the men they work with. It is definitely possible that it is because they lack a dick not so much that they have tits. There is still an old boys network and while there are some women that have to take lesser paying jobs for the flexibility - I think there is room for improvement. It's not just men vs. women either. I used to work in corporate america and my first supervisor was Vietnamese - he was smart, fair, hardworking, etc. etc. I really liked him personally and professionally; but he would always tell me he was never going to be promoted as he was Asian. At first, I thought he was being melodramatic; he does have a thick accent and he doesn't understand some "american" terms and phrases, but then he pointed out that there were no Asians in upper management at all. We worked for a huge corporation and there were no Asians we could find anywhere near a VP level. There were whites, blacks, and hispanics in high places (the squeaky wheels group), but no Indians, Asians, etc. I've worked for stupid people of every race, color and gender and I've worked for excellent people of every race, color and gender. To determine pay scale based on race, color and gender is just plain wrong.
